Fairchild announced the F8 would become obsolete and HP made a projected lifetime purchase for all F8-based 890nx products. The estimates ended up being low and we ran out of F8 haredare, so the F8 assembly code was program-translated to another CPU but I forget which one. I wasn't involved in that effort but know the engineer that did it, who likewise still lives in Spokane, WA.

Thanks for trying. In 1983 I went on to other projects and had no idea HP production engineers were still doing firmware releases as late as 1991! Big surprise to me.

Does anyone know how many of its ¡°first family¡± of frequency standards HP made? That would be the HP-100A (starting in 1943) through HP-100E (ending 1967). Just curious¡ªI have a 100E, made in or after 1961.?

I have an 8595E if that helps. I'm reluctant to open it up as it's working fine. Is there a way to dump the EEPROMs via GPIB etc?

I transmitted into my 8657B and the protection circuitry activated.? After a reset, the output of the generator was down 20 dB from normal.? The problem was in the switches, two ICs, that switched the frequency doubler in and out.? After replacing those all was well again.

Old HP 8558B spectral analyzer

Hello,

Good evening,
I¡¯m fixing an HP8558B spectrum analyzer.
It looks like it¡¯s working, but the displays aren¡¯t working. (Nothing)
I do have a voltage "Meter voltage" which work? with the frequency on the connector (904). All powers? are good.
The first problem is that I can¡¯t find the electronic diagram that manages the displays (A1..) Impossible to found something on the net
See pictures 2 and 3

It must be an old version, because it is made of 5 small pcb connected like an accordion. (See pictures)

Can¡¯t find the electronic sch¨¦matic. I even bought the 8558- 90043 version from Artec Manual, but it¡¯s not the right schematic.
it's alwaws a more recent diagram. (see picture no4)

If you have the diagram...>>> i would be happy
Some help please

Re: 410C probe leads

I was trying to figure out why I instinctively was so sure that
the DC and OHMs cables were coaxial, and I took a look at them.
I can easily see the braid texture through the outer plastic sheath,
and they are much stiffer than the ground lead, which feels just
like soft rubber test lead cable.

So, yes, both the grey DC lead, and the red OHMs/Amps leads are coax.

n4buq wrote:

I took a quick look last night and, yes, the DCV lead is a shielded cable on mine as well.

As for the OP, I suppose if banana jacks are employed, then one could also make the DCV lead with, perhaps, a BNC on one end and use one of those Pomona (or equivalent) banana to BNC adapters (provided the spacing is compatible).

Thanks,
Barry - N4BUQ

I'm looking at mine now.? It's part of the lead.? I think bandersontv on
YouTube showed that the shield is grounded to the outside of the probe as
well.? I'll have to make a probe since this one is missing.
