I would reply to you privately, but haven't figured out how to do it.
I won't continue to take the blame on this. groups.io is set by default to deliver e-mails in the most robust way possible. I just happened to be the first guy to use the shiny new "attachments" button because it was suitable for my post. I was not sending pictures of my cats to the group.
I like the groups.io. Your "problem"? seems to be a bit odd in that you say:
"I have broadband, and I have a quad core 3GHz machine with 8Gb
of memory, and your tronch of useless to me pictures bogs my
email program down for 40 seconds every time I click on your
posting as it translates the UUCODE encoding of your pictures
into JPEG files that my email program's MIME software can
display on my screen."
You have far more bandwidth capability than I do and I am happy with seeing the digests and then using the web interface for more in depth review of the posts.
As far as your saying:
"2/3 of the US is rural, and doesn't have great internet
service, having to suffer with dialup, or DSL service."
Nobody suggested using a text only BBS dial up service to replace Yahoo Groups, if they did, the decision was made by the administrator and the choice for groups.io? was a good one.
You were instructed how to eliminate attachments from the email delivery. So please stop haranguing me on this issue and threatening to quit the group.
