Re: 8753 / 8752 test 17 ADC linearity failure

Hello,

yes, this was something I could darkly remember too.

But in my case, I am still one level below. The units power supply was full of black dust which smelled like MILF - sorry for the brutalness, but it was like some weirdly sweet cologne for women. My dad and I are smokers, and we both decided it cannot be cigar ash as that doesnt smell so sweet...kinda like caramel.

Could that be residue from a RIFA?

One point of investigation may be the analog multiplexers on that A10 board - based on this comment:

There is no proof that this relates directly to the ADC linearity fault though, it was just a suspicion that they might be prone to degrade or fail.

Hello Tobias,

sorry for being a bit late to the party - as you can see, I am always overworked.

I have a similar issue with my 8753C. Are you interested in working on this problem together?

I know that there used to be a company which repaired this problem...so it must be something we can find and fix.

Tam

Hi

interesting. Is it true, everybody just replaces A10?
oh what a pity :-( does the problem mean that the ADC, which is a ADC76KG, have a problem?
I think with modern electronic components it should theoretically be possible to construct a replacement for this ADC, by making a small adapter board DIP to SMD. Because the ADC76KG is a pretty normal, 16 bit ADC with parallel outputs, as far as I remember.

Subject: [hp_agilent_equipment] 8753 / 8752 test 17 ADC linearity failure

?

I recently picked up an HP 8752C with option 006 (6 Ghz!)

It needed new caps in the power supply and now appears to work great but fails test 17 - ADC Linearity. Most of the time it seems people replace the A10 Digital IF board.

Has anyone successfully repaired this fault? It would great to narrow this problem down once and for all.

Does anyone have a known good board (08753-60095) they are willing to sell?

Any other thoughts/suggestions are also welcomed.
