The display in the 35670A is an Electroluminescent (EL) display sourced from Planar Systems.? The phosphor is yellow.?

It was about 25 years ago, so my memory is fuzzy...

The amber filter was added by HP. ?I recollect they had the filter coated with a very thin gold layer as an EMI filter.? That would have been on the backside, as you say.? With AG (anti-glare) on the front side.? Maybe assuring a good RF contact to the backside filter layer is the reason it needs to be sent in for replacement.

Regarding the filter color, you could bias the filter to red or green, but you'll get much less light out than a yellow or amber filter.? An alternative is a neutral grey filter.? Though expensive, if you can find a neutral grey with a CP (circular polarizer) that would be the best for contrast.? Gives a nice yellow on a dark blue background.? HP didn't use it due to the added cost--the gold shield was expensive enough.

Subject: [hp_agilent_equipment] 35670a Screen Viewing Filter
?

Hello All,

Can someone with a 35670a or has worked on one be so kind as to enlighten me about the screen filter gel or whatever it is that Keysight refers to as?NFTS LNZ-FLTR RFI/OPTICAL. ?I have one on the bench that looks as if there is a plastic film that is separating from the base material and makes it look like a sloppy job of applying saran wrap to the screen. ?It is not on the front of the screen protective material, but just behind it.

As I look at the picture on the Keysight parts search with the part number of 35670-29310, it looks like a standard filter gel with a cardboard frame. ?I am hoping that I can simply install a new piece of filter gel and get her looking good again, but the site tells me that it is a NON-ORDERABLE part and the gear must be sent in for repair to get it.

Does the CRT in the 35670a display in white and use this "filter" to change that to amber as in all of the pics of the display, or is it something much more than this? ?IF it does work like this I think a nice green filter would work better for me.

Thoughts?

Cheers,

David
