Motorola did a lot of Schottky and ultrafast recovery diodes in TO-220 packages. Those were diodes for currents higher than 5 A and to best of my knowledge, none of them were JEDEC registered, so most likely single source. I have seen some other manufacturers putting out diodes in TO-220, but very few of them, not an industry wide practice. Some of those diodes were pairs, and others had tab connected to one of end leads. What you have is either a pair with one leg shorted or it is a bona fide single diode. As Schottky diodes, TO-220 was used up to 30 A and for higher current they used TO-218 (a bigger package). In ultrafast recovery the line was drawn at 16 A. Hope, this helps somewhat.
