Suppose that they have some circuitry that infringes someone
else's patent. Then, they would have a lot to lose if they
released the the component level diagrams.
This is one of the reasons so many companies balk at the idea
of open source. If they open sourced their programs, everyone
could easily see the infringement issues.

I often wonder if Agilent have component level diagrams for these units? Surely there must be documentation because they used to repair faulty modules. Why not release this information as they are not interested in repairing units anymore? They have nothing to lose or do they? Maybe, the sale of a new current model? I fixed some units in the past by tracing out and comparing which is a very time consuming process.
