Mike,
?
Before
you go and try and repair the power meter try and do a full re-alignment on
it.? I have found that if you are not getting good readings at the low end
that re-aligning the 436A will bring it right back into specs.? The whole
alignment procedure can be done in about a half an hour or so with only a meter,
range calibrator and counter if my memory serves me correctly.? This was
the meter of choice when I was in the Marines and with years of use and age in
general they just don't hold the specs. as long as you would think.? We had
ours on a two or three year cycle and I would still pull them every?six
months and have the guys do an alignment and cal.? We couldn't have the cal
lab being the ones OOT.? Now I work commercial repair and cal and no one
wants them stickered for less than a year.? I think the money issue is a
problem that is going to screw up alot of measurements.

Thanks for the info.
The only problem is all three of my 436s behave the same way. What are the
chances of all 3 having the same problem? Is there any one on here who does
get a full 50 dB of dynamic range with their 436A? Did you try it Brooke? I
just want to make sure it is me. I mentioned it to another friend of mine and
he seemed to remember running into the same dilemma. 73 - Mike

Hi Mike:
I asked a friend who's probably one of the world's experts
on power
measurements and he
thinks you 436 is defective.? His reply is:
"Probably the A2 card (AC gain board, contains true range
decoder) of
the 436... might be
the controller card A5 ... sends the range data to
the A2."
Have Fun,
