It has been a very long time since I worked on these units, but if I recall correctly (IIRC) the switch contacts were silver plated. You should use DE-OXIT contact cleaner and lube on these rotary switches. Alcohol only cleans the dirt and any grease off the switch contacts, but does nothing for any silver oxidation. The DE-OXIT cleans the oxidation (black coating) and leaves a thin oil film that prevents further oxidation. Apply the DE-OXIT and rotate the switched many times and it should resolve any switch issues.
