Regarding HP-339 general problems when selecting oscillator frequency, I have solved past problems with my unit by cleaning the rotary switch contacts. It's a pain to perform the cleaning but has been necessary and was the first thing recommended by the HP service center back in the day when one could call and talk to a tech for advice.
