The contact finger repair for my 8557A is complete! It took me at least half dozen reassemblies, but I finally got it!? I was working through the operator's check and everything was looking great until it asked me to center the LO feedthrough peak using the tuning knobs.? The coarse tuning knob was not moving the LO peak anywhere.? Further investigation revealed the coarse tuning knob peak was bad (wiper not making contact or broke).? I replaced it temporarily with a pot I had on hand and it started working!? So I am just waiting on the replacement pot to continue the repair.??
