new menber

Hi.
I'm new to this group and thought a little introduction is in order.
I am a semi-retired EE, specialized in the design of RFID readers which I have been doing for the past 30+ years.
Not a collector of HP gear per se, but I have aquired the odd bit here and there, most of it has been in storage for the past two or more decades:
HP 3325
HP 3330B with 3570A
HP 141T with 8552A and 8553B sections
HP 3577A
HP 3577A with 35677A
HP 3577B with 35677B
HP 8640B
Agilent 54620C
?
The 54620C is causing me problems: it refuses to start up and only produces a horizontal line on the display.
I looked inside but could not find any obvious defects or smells, or any shorted tantalum caps.
The only thing that stood out just a bit (literally) was the NVRAM module that appears a little bloated.
Photos will be uploaded shortly.
?
Regarding this problem I am left with the following questions:
1) what can cause this behaviour?
2) is there any essential (like calibration) data in that RAM, i.o.w. can I just replace it?
3) if there is essential data there, how do I go about to refres/place that data?
?
It all boils down to the ultimate question: is there hope of restoring it or is it a basket case?
