I've got an 08662-60082 attenuator in an 8662A which seems to have
become damp in the past and the gold material has lifted off the
nickel-chrome resistive layer in the first section which makes the
whole attenuator behave like an open. It's only one section (looks
like the A section 20db and 40db)
For those curious a photo of the board, which looks like some kind of
ceramic/alumina is here:
There are gold "bypass" fingers above this to short out one or both
sections depending on the electrical settings.
Is there any hope for repair? Or is this basically a case of find a
donor attenuator - this one doesn't seem easy to find and I don't know
how compatible some of the others (-60002, -60086 and -60089 might
be).
The added problem is that there's an EPROM associated to the
attenuator serial number, presumably containing measured attenuation
values. I don't know if the format is documented anywhere as I guess
I'll have to recalibrate it using a power meter.
I know the installation of the latest 08662-60585 attenuator involved
two replacement board (reverse power and A2A3 latch) as well and is
probably not viable!
