I came to the conclusion many years ago that even getting a patent on a design is useless unless you are Apple or Microsoft, and even then it is no guarantee.
For example the story of the inventor of the intermittent windshield wiper who ruined his life fighting a large auto manufacturer who stole his design.

? ?Your buy-in notwithstanding, this practice is widely known in the
commercial world.
