Re: hp 5036A Microprocessor Lab

Hello Steve,

Yes, I saw your unit on your webpage. Quite often I visit for questions about gear. Glad you have it up, it is an invaluable resource.

Once I manage to find one from either a responsive seller, loony prices, or one that is not total junk, perhaps we can trade notes. I've been scratch-building an i8085 system for an innovation project I have been contemplating for some years and looking for the 5036A as:

1. A sanity check for the scratch-board,
2. A way to gain insights how to best use my 5005B Signature Multimeter in terms of data signatures passing bidirectionally through the I/O during phases of the runtime. The HPIB will help in providing me analytics. Using EZGPIB with the Prologix module.

Many of my colleagues think it crazy that machine learning can be accomplished on such a small system (small in terms of the sheer computational power thrown to LLMs) but I did some scoping years ago on a M68HC11 that yielded favourable results. Writing a paper for IEEE Aerospace Transactions to share publicly.

If I can make this work, the next generation would have a reason to continue to engineer these kinds of solutions.
