Re: I bought a working HP3400A, however it doesn't.

Ebay is trying to improve their image. They want their
sellers to stop playing "catch me if you can" and trade fairly.

Ebay doesn't want their buyers to worry about being cheated
out of their money... They simply want them to buy and buy and buy...

Ebay gave sellers essentially three categories to use when
selling on their platform:

New (working), Used (working) and For parts or repair.

Ebay makes sellers guarantee that their items are listed for
sale in the correct category.

If you sell something on ebay as used, and you don't know it
to be in good working order, you are gambling: Your bet is
that your item works, your stake is the price of return shipping.

I love it that you are ethical, Mike.

I too try to live my life ethically. But I don't believe that
living ethically requires one to be a sucker.

If you believe that living ethically requires you to also be a
sucker, then yes, our values and ethics are different.

at 77, I can tell you I have bought plenty. On reflectors, the only
guy I ever had an issue with was Lothar. Some time ago a guy gave me
a radio for free. It was not working, but I managed to fix it and
sold it for $300. I gave the guy that gave it to me $150. He was not
expecting it or wanted it, but it was what I wanted. With about
10,000 transactions on eBay, I maybe had issues with a handful of
sellers. Maybe your values and ethics are different. 73 ¨C Mike

Is that what you would have done if you bought the meter from HPAK?

Ebay's rules are binary: Items listed as "USED" will work as if they
were new, or the seller will refund the sales price plus return
shipping.

Sellers are forever rolling-the-dice on that rule. They know that
ebay is strict in its enforcement... but they also know that they
will lose 60% of the value if they sell items as ASIS, for repair or
parts...

As a seller, I hate ebay's terms. As a buyer, I am quite happy with
them. Which is exactly how ebay wants it.

In other words, the meter was fine all the time, just needed
cleaning.
I would have returned the refunded funds to the seller, rather than
brag about a good deal. 73 ¨C Mike
