Hi -
I'm looking for advise in regards to refurbishing test equipment cabinets that use the orange peel textured plastic (vinyl?) glued to sheet metal.? I believe most of the HP/Agilent equipment used this material.? As we all know, this material is soft and get chewed up over time and handling.? If the cabinet is fairly simple in construction, it seems like you could glue another layer of this material on top of the existing material.?
Does anyone know if this has ever been done?
Is it possible to remove the existing vinyl material?? Using heat perhaps?
Is it even possible to purchase this material that might closely match the orange-peel texture in the correct color?
Anyway, hopefully someone has some first hand knowledge whether this is feasible.? I have a couple of pieces of equipment where the cabinet is severely damaged with huge scratches and scrapes.
Looking forward to your opinions.
Jim
