Those Nicer options in your 8753C can be enabled through the service
menu as well with a code generated by someone on this list that
originally worked on the design. No need to desolder the eeprom. You
do have to take the cover off to make sure the jumper (or dip switch,
I forget now) is set to enable writes though...

It depends on the instrument involved. However, for the most part, the
process involves removing the physical memory devices from said
instrument (ROMs, EPROMs, EEPROMs, whatever) and reading them in a
device reader/programmer.
The whole thing is pretty easy if the devices are socketed (most are).
However, I have run into cases where the memory device involved is
either soldered into the board or is a surface-mount device. Either can
be dealt with, if you have the appropriate tools and skill set.
Example: My recent acquisition of an HP 8753C network analyzer.
Enabling a couple of the nicer options required me to desolder the
EEPROM, read it into a file, edit the appropriate bytes in the file,
reprogram the device with the modified file and reinstall it (I
installed a socket first).
Happy tweaking.

Hi,
i've been reading some posts regarding gear repairs and there is
sometimes mentioned to backup the firmware. I have an idea how it works,
but it'll be great when you will share your expertice, howtows and used
Equipment when you are facing that kind of task
