I have opened the panel on an HP 3586C and can confirm that the pinout on the diagram in your post is correct. Note that it is a 5 pin housing with pin 4 not populated with a wire.
I would note that pin 1, black is clearly shown as 'ground' and pin 5, white/red, is clearly shown as +5 in your diagram. I can confirm that the unit is indeed wired to the diagram you posted.
