PEI Phase One
2
PEI began Phase One of their Coronavirus Restoration process on Friday, May 1st. Some activity outdoors is allowed...groups of five from multiple pods are allowed. The 14-day quarantine for people coming into the province will continue until Phase Two. PEI has 27 cases, 0.017% of its population, no deaths. Hope you’re all well as I begin Week 8 in “quarantine.” Everett W6ABM-- Everett Curry W6ABM Treasurer, SEA-PAC? 2020 Committee Assistant Section Manager/Oregon ARRL, the national association for Amateur Radio? Border Closure Extension
5
From CBC: The Canada-U.S. border will remain closed for another 30 days. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced the deal to extend the closure during his daily news conference on Tuesday. Both countries reached an agreement in March to temporarily close the border to non-essential travel — meaning no recreational visits — while keeping it open to commercial traffic and essential workers who cross for work. That agreement was extended in April by 30 days and it was set to expire on May 21.Everett W6ABM -- Everett Curry W6ABM Treasurer, SEA-PAC? 2020 Committee Assistant Section Manager/Oregon ARRL, the national association for Amateur Radio? Fear of Flying
3
Health experts say that fears of catching a bug on a plane are overblown. “Research shows that [planes] are much safer than other enclosed spaces, mainly due to the design of the air filtration systems,” said Dr. Erin Bromage, an associate professor of biology at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth. His advice: Position the air nozzle, which blasts purified air, your way for the entire flight. — Today’s WSJ-- Everett Curry W6ABM Treasurer, SEA-PAC? 2020 Committee Assistant Section Manager/Oregon ARRL, the national association for Amateur Radio? Today's meeting

Peter I saw you attempt. It showed video muted no audio. Sorry we missed you. We determined to move our PEI Adventure to 2021 (September 15-27, 2021). Our host has agreed to allow us to apply the deposit he is holding for that new set of dates. I'm going to keep the groups.io open for us to use with each other. Field Day 2020
8
On a slightly different note: What are all you guys planning for Field Day under the current circumstances? I will probably be doing a park battery/solar oeration somewhere relatively local, but not sure exactly where yet. A few club members are champing to do a scaled-down event, but no real consensus as to how & where. And I don’t think I’m ready to play with groups who, for the most part, are “mask-intolerant” or otherwise “let’s get back to normal”. Might be time to relocate again - the Caribbean calls! Mac/wt4bt

US-CANADA BORDER CLOSURE
2
Guys Note the change in name for this group to 2021-PEI-ADVENTURE. The email address to post to it is changed as well. Please update your address book. _____ Two day old post regarding the current closure through September 21st. A group of Canadian mayors from cities located near the U.S.-Canada border are calling for the federal government to continue prohibiting non-essential travel between the two countries. This week, the group of mayors met in an online video conference with Canada’s Public Safety Minister Bill Balir, according to a story by CTV. “We really need to have it closed until at least the end of the year and then make an assessment, Sarnia, Ontario, Mayor Mike Bradley told CTV. “We need to see what’s happening with COVID in this province with the schools opening and people being in closer quarters, and we also need to watch what’s happening without American partners across the river.” _____ We'd be on Prince Edward Island if the COVID-19 cooperated. Now...we're resetting the countdown to 15 September 2021. I hope you're all safe. Barbara is improving physically, but some issues remain on the cognitive front. We're going to head out to northern Utah for some Fall Color next week for 9 days. Everett W6ABM

Update
3
Hello Ev and PEI operators. Thanks for updating the email address, Ev. Let's hope that you don't need to change it again for 2022! Today would have been my departure date for PEI, but obviously events have changed that. In reflecting back on everything that happened up to this point, I never would have guessed the outcome. The COVID19 issues have changed life for the near future and possibly longer. The only place that did very well was NZ. Now I have another reason to wish that I lived there. But the reality of it all is that we are all alive and can dream about the future...a big blessing. Mac, Ev I hope that you keep up the dialog with Scott. He's a good guy and a good engineer. Peter, I hope that you meet him on a little DX trip. Ok, enough Irish chatter. I need to call Costco and inquire about a flu shot. Peter, did you ever go to the Costco in Auckland? Cheers my friends. Canada - Covid - PEI
Thanks for the updating Ev. I wonder how Canada will be handling “new Citizen transplants” from the US if November goes dangerously ;~}. Not that I relish the cold(er) weather but… Peter, I envy you your ’travelling’. We, Lynn and I, are trying to figure how we can find some beachfront time away along the Gulf of Mexico for a week or two, but Hurricane Sally has created a problem with that for us. We may have to go east instead to the Atlantic shores if we can find a safe locale. 73 all, Mac/wt4bt

2022 Adventure?
This sounds interesting, when they finally open up for tourism. "Seaview Sunrise Affordable stay with beachfront bungalows on Haad Rin beach, Koh Phangan, Thailand.” Covid may have finally put an end to the Full Moon parties which had devolved into drunken, drugged madhouses leaving the beaches a mess. Thailand, when they reopen, wants to aim towards more eco-tourism and “medical” (think healthy resorts, etc.) and fewer numbers. Hmmm…. Mac/wt4bt (may have to move somewhere like that anyway if November-January goes wonky)

CANADA US BORDER AFTER OCTOBER 21st
3
"The U.S. is not in a place where we would feel comfortable reopening those borders," he told the hosts of "Smart Start," which airs on Canada's Global Television Network. “We will continue to make sure that Canadian safety is top of mind when we move forward. We see the cases in the United States and elsewhere around the world, and we need to continue to keep these border controls in place." Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau interview yesterday. Don't bet on the U.S.-Canadian border reopening after the current closure agreement expires on Oct. 21.

Dates for September 2021
18
Team A slight hitch in our plans for September. Ken had double booked us with a “regular.” If we’re willing to move a week earlier, one week will be at no cost. So, September 8-20, 2021 would be our new dates. Bueno? PEI COVID-19 As Of November 14
There are four active cases in the province. P.E.I. has seen a total of 68 cases, with no deaths and no hospitalizations. Population is 159,625. Case rate is 42.599 per 100,000. Death rate is 0.0. In my County (Washington Co., Oregon) the same numbers are: Case rate is 1,232 per 100,000 Death rate is .0118 (deaths divided by cases) Death rate in persons in their 70s who are infected is 5% statewide. This is still a hill to climb. Today’s Canadian news says 30% of snowbirds are headed to Florida this winter, mostly in their upper 70s and lower 80s. Most are buying COVID-19 health insurance. New Border Closure Extension
9
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security announced on Tuesday, January 12, that the U.S., Canada and Mexico have extended the non-essential travel restrictions until February 21, 2021. This is the eighth time these restrictions have been extended by the DHS due to COVID-19.-- Everett Curry W6ABM Treasurer, SEA-PAC? 2022 Committee Assistant Section Manager/Oregon ARRL, the national association for Amateur Radio? St. Lucia Contest Station

OK Guys, read this! Another reason to go back to J6! In the latest NCJ magazine at <http://www.arrl.org/arrl-magazines> or direct (maybe) <https://edition.pagesuite-professional.co.uk/html5/reader/production/default.aspx?pubname=&edid=d5feb41c-67ca-482b-b38f-0ef2e3005d4e> the article starting on page 4. The J68HZ contest station is now open for business and a new villa will be available for rent mid-2021. Chateau Devaux for relaxing and a week at Villa Grand Piton for some hard-core action! C-19 Vaccine Update
5
Well, Tennessee finally shifted to 50 years old and up (still at 1a1, 1a2 risk category) so I’ve ’signed us up’! Some 350 or so in front of us I guess. No way to be sure. So we’re in line for a needle-stick. Maybe this week, maybe next month, maybe sometime in the fall. Who knows? The way this state operates it’s anybodies guess. Mac/wt4bt Oh, Joe and Ev, I ‘ran into’ Bob Cady/W7JNM from out your way (Portland near Hillsboro) via Zoom last night. He said he doesn’t know either of you but would keep an eye/ear out for you. Seems to be a nice guy.

some progress
3
Gents, a wee progress report. 1) Everett and Barbara get their first Covid-19 vaccinations next week. 2) Joe gets his first shot next week as well. Nancy becomes eligible next Monday. 3) Mac and Lynne are getting their shots now. Peter, have you gotten your shots? What's the process in NZ? 4) The Canadian government has put more restrictions on entering the country. Some folks are forecasting an extended border closure, others see opening in a month. We still have about 6 months before our planned trip so no need to worry yet. Cheers my friends, Joe N7BF Sent from my Verizon, Samsung Galaxy smartphone
