Updates on PEI Station setup
From Ken:
The remodeling of the two unfinished rooms and one finished room into a master suite is underway. I hope it will be done by August.
Antenna switching is now via an app in anticipation of remoting the station. I'll send you a writeup on using it before your trip.
I got a K4 and it is at the main operating position. There will be 2 by the time of your visit. It is a very sweet radio. I added a Geochon?Atlas 2 to the shack on a 43" monitor. -- Everett Curry W6ABM

New Zealand Will Welcome American Tourists By Julyby??on February 3, 2022 New Zealand has announced??and it includes welcoming American tourists without quarantine starting in July ¨C or earlier. The key takeaway for Americans is this, Non-citizens with visas will be able to also avoid [government quarantine] from April and in July non-citizens from visa-waiver countries such as Australia, the USA, and the UK will be allowed in.
The July date is even viewed as the latest this could occur, according to New Zealand¡¯s Prime Minister: ¡°I want to place strong emphasis on this being the latest we expect this to begin. There is a high likelihood of this date coming forward as we progress through the next stage of the pandemic.¡±
New Zealand¡¯s 5 stages of reopening are: - Fully vaccinated New Zealanders ¡°and other currently eligible travellers from Australia¡± can self-isolate in lieu of government quarantine starting 11.59pm February 27.
- On March 13 this opens up to ¡°other currently eligible travellers from the rest of the world¡± along with ¡°¡±an expanded border exception for critical workers, and certain skilled workers earning at least 1.5 times the median wage.¡±
- Starting April 12 they welcome up to 5000 students.
- In July (latest) self-isolation requirements end for most.
- And then all pandemic border restrictions cease in October
¡°Bayswater Marina Auckland New Zealand¡± by Bayswater marina, Creative Commons
In my view this upgrades the chances that??will hold. If New Zealand¡¯s Prime Minister can talk about re-opening publicly, then the politics of re-opening across the Tasman have a greater chance of working out as well. -- Everett Curry W6ABM

Starting Saturday, the United States will require anyone who is not a U.S. citizen or permanent resident to provide proof of vaccination against Covid when crossing the land borders or coming over by ferry. ¡°Starting on January 22, 2022, the Department of Homeland Security will require that non-U.S. individuals entering the United States via land ports of entry or ferry terminals along our Northern and Southern borders be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and be prepared to show related proof of vaccination,¡± said Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro N. Mayorkas in a press release.? ¡°These updated travel requirements reflect the Biden-Harris Administration¡¯s commitment to protecting public health while safely facilitating the cross-border trade and travel that is critical to our economy.¡± -- Everett Curry W6ABM

Response to Covid Questions - February Link
What are entry requirements to Canada and to Prince Edward Island?
You need to apply for a PEI Pass no matter hoe you arrive (car, ship, or air).
By air, you get off the plane in Charlottetown, line up for a rapid Covid test. You must get another one within 4 - 6 days. It is easy to get tests in PEI and they are free.
By car, you are checked at the Canadian border and again at Confederation Bridge.
At return to the US, you need a PCR test within 72 hours. Peter will have some requirements as well on return to New Zealand.
There is a mandatory 4 day quarantine for entering PEI, vaccinated or not. Quarantine would be served at the lodge. It is not expected to be in place in August unless a new variant causes it to continue. Time will tell.
How will the remodel impact the number of bedrooms/sleeping arrangements? There will be one large queen bedroom with ensuite bathroom replacing a small bedroom, two "storage" rooms and no ensuite bathroom.
Are we losing a bedroom or two?
No, see above.
What are the protocols for groceries? Do we buy on first arrival before beginning our quarantine? Don't know yet. Ken may be there next month, we'll know after he uses the house. If necessary, there is a contact that will purchase immediate need groceries. Those arriving by car can bring basics, if needed.

Brief designation for Prince Edward Island
Guys
Prince Edward Island had used the designation PEI for a long time in logging programs.? RAC has used PE for its purposes.? As of last April, the ARRL altered the recognized designation from PEI to PE.
Most logging programs have picked up the change.
There was a station active in the RTTY contest this weekend from PE.

Re: Note from Ken RE: PEI DX Lodge
Hi team, the situations are so fluid that I am not worrying too much just now. Come June and I will be looking carefully at how things are. Currently getting back into NZ after going anywhere seems to be the problem, No guarantees or even the ability to plan a return date. No omicron surges here yet. Had my third (booster) jab yesterday. Summer temperatures mid 20¡¯s to mid thirties C. ? Keep safe. ? ? Nga mihi ? Peter Moore ZL2HM ? ? ?

From Ken; ¡°?I was in PEI in Oct/Nov for both Sweepstakes and both CQWW DX contests. As soon as you get off the plane in Charlottetown, you line up for a rapid Covid test. You then must get another one within 4 - 6 days. And you need a PCR test within 72 hours of returning to the US. It is easy to get tests in PEI and they are free.
Right now PEI has a mandatory 4 day quarantine for everyone entering PEI, vaccinated or not. That was implemented after my trip.
I am scheduled to go back in Feb/Mar for the ARRL DX contests. If they were tomorrow, at this point, I personally wouldn't go due the Omicron surge. I see how things look in 5 weeks before making a final decision.
By the way, the ceiling started falling down in one of the rooms that wasn't previously remodeled. I am turning those two rooms and the one opposite the upstairs bathroom into a master suite with a new bathroom. It should be finished well before August.

Re: Note from Ken RE: PEI DX Lodge
You and I think similarly. Looking for Omicron to peak and Dec¡as in places ahead of us.
Two of our team will be flying into Charlottetown. Two others will be driving, MAC from Tennessee¡me from Boston (after flight from PDX). Do you know how they are implementing the requirements for those driving in?
Stay healthy.
