Settling back in...
Home a week...finally got my LoTW credentials for W6ABM/VY2 and logs are submitted and processed.
MAC: how is the dental surgery going?? I checked out the PDX - IPC airfares and started looking at seasonal weather.? The most common route from Portland OR (PDX) is via Los Angeles LAX or New York's JFK with an overnight there and SCL, Santiago Chile.? The fares range widely...but typically $1,375-2,500.? LATAM is the airline serving Mataveri via Santiago, Chile.? LATAM has a direct route from Auckland to Santiago. I haven't checked that fare. The location in the southeastern Pacific (-27.104671, -109.360481) makes February the warmest month and August the coolest month.? Look up and read the on-the-ground comments from the XR0YD DXpedition in March, 2018. Just one option...their site seems reasonable in February and March. Ev W6ABM |
DL2AH looks like a kindred spirit
2023 Plan for DXPEDITION. His previous ops look like our list of options.

Re: Last Leg
开云体育Hi Joe, Ev and Mac, I have been home nearly a week and am just about acclimatised. Had snow falling here this morning, very unusual for these latitudes. The last sting of winter I hope I had quite an eventful trip home, caught all my flights but some connections were a bit tight. 1 ? hours in a queue in Montreal to get through security and passport control, then the plane broke down and we sat on the tarmac for three hours while they fixed the problem and found a new crew, the first one had run out of hours. I had a great time with Everett, Joe and Nancy. Sorry to have missed you Mac and Lynn. I hope there is a next time so that we can meet It was my first experience of a Contest Station with all the antennas and hi power, Well worth the visit. ? I hope you are all safely home now. Thanks for organising this great experience. ? ? Nga mihi ? Peter Moore ZL2HM ? ? ? From: [email protected] <[email protected]> On Behalf Of W6ABM

开云体育I'm not enjoying the Oregon vs Georgia game. Nix tries to thread the needle with passes that should have been thrown to an open player. Oregon running backs try to be clever when simply running forward would be best. Now the Georgia crowd is into it, making signal calling difficult.? The Baltimore Orioles game might be on in the Boston area. Adley Rutschman, from Oregon State, is playing with the birds.? 开云体育Yes, we had to wait to check in our bags. The earliest check in is 4 hours before the flight. But you now know that. Food was good at "Joe's " near the Alaska gates. When we were there, flights to Portland, SFO, and San Diego had close times. I think that Alaska ended up canceling the SFO flight. Re: Travel home
I made it to Bangor ME on Monday evening after dropping Peter at Charlottetown airport before 7:15...he had a four-hour wait for his airplane. I followed the same route as when arriving...it was quicker.? No issue at border...just the? usual questions to test my responses...and about why I was traveling in a New York vehicle. Tuesday traveled to Seabrook NH (night on MA border). In this Best Western through tonight (Thursday). I found the memorial for my 8th Great Grandfather, Henry Blaisdell, at the old Golgotha Burial Ground in Amesbury. He was one of the founders and "prudential man." Amesbury is on the Merrimack River, one of the northernmost towns in Massachusetts. Visited the Witch Museum at Salem. My 9th Great Grandmother, Susannah North Martin, was hung on July 19, 1792 after a court found her to be a witch, at the age of 71. She had been charged at least twice before and found innocent. This time, her obnoxious attitude got her convicted.? Her granddaughter, Hannah, married Jonathan Blaisdell, my 7th Great Grandfather, and my first Blaisdell born in America. I have a reservation to visit the JFK Museum at Columbia Point tomorrow before shedding the car and checking in at Embassy Suites Logan Airport. I fly on Saturday. Thinking about another ADVENTURE.? I'm going to change the name of this tool to HAM-ADVENTURERS if it allows that name. Everett On Wed, Aug 31, 2022 at 10:20 PM Joe Kelly <joekelly@...> wrote:

Re: Seeking Update on MAC
开云体育Thanks for the update, Mac.No worries about infections if have a daily dose of Carolina Reaper. Just rub some "CR" on the site and forget about any infections. Plus it's therapeutic side effects may cause the root to fall out. Thus no need for the dental surgeon appt. It has been a great time here. My original plan was to do some field ops with you, but as the time passed I never took my KX2 or EFD out of my bags. We'll do it next time.? You know me well enough to recall that I don't worry about, or even apply for awards. I've logged in a variety of SOTA, POTA, IOTA, ILLW, and new DX counties.? Nancy explores PEI while I play radio. She loves the place and stated that she could happily live here. Hmmm, maybe she can buy the other DX Lodge! Tonight is our farewell dinner. We'll enjoy it in Northport, near the lighthouse there. We'll raise our glasses and hope your anticipated return to great health is at hand. Cheers, Joe? Yes, lobster in Maine and in PEI.? Mostly Haddock Fish and Chips. We met George and Bernie today at Northport Back Range light. They have a nice operation. Keep us in the loop on any possible POTA ops. We'll work at it. Ev W6ABM On Sat, Aug 20, 2022 at 9:55 AM Barclay Thomas <wt4bt@...> wrote:

Re: Update for Mac
开云体育Ev and all,Sounds like you are all having fun, even with the additional ‘moisture’ you are occasionally getting. Ev, are you just casing the POTA contacts? Or are you getting out to any of the parks? There are a bunch that have never been activated up around you. A "CQ POTA” from one of the would get you beaucoup contacts and make you a very desirable person (he says with a big grin!). We are scheduled for T’storms for the weekend and into early next week but I’ll try to get things hooked up and search you out on the clusters to get you all in the log. Waiting on an opening with the dental sturgeon to get the remains of the tooth & root extracted, so kind of need to stay relatively close to home. BUT, we may make a run over to the Memphis area (~3 hr run) and, if it happens to be next weekend, I’ll find a lighthouse to play at some. May try some POTA from the Natchez Trace as well. If so, I’ll let you guys know time and approximate freq. I’ll post on the POTA BBS too of course. Missing the lobster…had any yet???? Mac

Update for Mac
开云体育Hi Mac, So far our stay is going well. The grocery store, gas station, building supply, Dollar Store and a good restaurant are near by. Last night we went to Charlottestown for dinner and to see the Ann & Gilbert's play. It was truly a great play/musical. One of the writers comes up from New York city once a year, and he was there last night. He was very approachable and a talented chap. Today Nancy and Wendy are out roaming around the island to enjoy tourist things here. The radio station is a bit overwhelming for me. Everything seems to be connected to everything else thru a maze of wire, switches, relays. Ev was here two days before Peter and I, plus he actually read some of the instructions and talked with Ken. So he has become the "go to guy" for me. Everything works great but getting it into what I want is not straightforward. I'm working POTA stations to help me get better acquainted with the system.? For example, rotating an antenna is a multistep process. First change the degree and rotate the appropriate yagi on a popup menu on screen number two. The software says its rotating but its not. The next step is to set the same degree heading on a switch box for the specific antenna and then determine if you should rotate it CW or CCW to achieve the proper angle without hitting the stop.. Haven't taken my KX2 out of my backpack yet. The wx changes often and when it rains, it REALLY rains. Two nights ago we ate dinner at the local pub and grub place and the rain was blowing horizontally.? Enough bla-bla for now. I'm sure that Ev and/or Peter will add their thoughts. Hopefully your dental repair process is moving forward.? Cheers my friend. N7BF? Sent from my Verizon, Samsung Galaxy smartphone |
