Hi, I'm new to this list, hopefully submitting this correctly. I was able to get the TK5 distribution running under VM/370 CE 1.2 and am trying to install the VMEXIT and ZBP0001 patches to improve its behavior under the VM environment. I was able to install the VMEXIT patch without issue and verified that it works. In trying to install the ZBP0001 patch I ran into an error that I had to do some digging to interpret; I was able to track down an IBM article which helped me to understand that one of the data sets it is trying to update ran out of space and needs to be expanded. The article I found (https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/iec030i-b37-04-and-gim24200e-abend-b37-00000004-when-applying-cics-ptf) provides syntax to include in the JCL to expand the available space in the data sets, but I suspect the numbers they gave were intended for more modern OS variants and are probably a bit too high for a S/370 MVS 3.8j environment? As I am not quite sure on this, before I go and do something like try to make the dataset bigger than the mainframe, can someone help me to identify values that would be more appropriate to get past this issue under TK5? When an UNCATLG is issued and RAKF is turned off so that IEHMOVE works, I get a message: IEC331I 056-006,JOLDEVA ,IEBGENER,RCU ,IGG0CLBM I wonder if there is some sort of bypass? Thanks, Clem Clarke

Hello Everyone! Where can i find which units were assigned to esoteric group SYSSQ? Can i change those assignments? Also, why ASMFCLG procedure uses SYSSQ by default and not SYSDA? And why there is usually three SYSUT data set definitions in JCL? One for compile, one for link and one for go? Best wishes, Andre

For all you MVS-TK5 users: I wrote a modest Go lang program that takes advantage of the Hecules "print-to-pipe" feature to split up print output sent from JES into separate print files each with a name that's taken from the banner info in the job itself. Hello Everyone! Hope you all are doing well. Recently i have found DL/I Distribution at moshix github page. https://github.com/moshix/DLI This thing fascinates me, because it was used for the Apollo program. So i decided to try and install it, to see the message "DLI READY" myself. Well, turns out i know almost nothing about MVT. I have ASP turnkey version(http://www.ibiblio.org/jmaynard/asp.zip), and tried to run some scripts from distribution, but when the system asks for reply, i just don't know what even it asks me about. So i failed miserably at this task. Guys, you are my only hope, perhaps some of you have successfully installed this program or can direct me to a helpful textual guide. I'm uncertain if moshix ever visits this group, but it would be great to see a new video from him on this subject. Best wishes, Andre

I am trying to share DASD files between a Windows-10 Hercules on a PC and a Windows-11 Hercules as a virtual machine under MacOS running Parallels. I have specified SHRDPORT 3990 in both configuration files. Am I going to have to define the DASD using the IP address format (which is a bit confusing in the documentation)? The Windows-10 system will always be the local and the virtual machine on the Mac will always be the remote. On my network, the Windows IP address is: 192.168.12.85 and the Mac IP address is 192.168.12.117. These are subject to change since all devices get their IP addresses using DHCP. Thoughts please. PS: I also cannot find any documentation for MSG HHC00404E anywhere.

I am versed in using the COPY statement for COBOL programs in the VSE environment (DOS/VSE, VSE/ESA), however I am learning the ways of MVS using an OS/390 system. I have several questions: 1. Is there a default or defined library that contain COPYBOOK entries? It seems I need to define a SYSLIB to access it, correct? Note: I noticed for CICS, maps are stored in CICSTS13.CICS.SDFHMAC and CICSTS13.CICS.SDFHCOB contains COBOL copybooks. 2. If not, I suppose I need to create one. What is the recommended naming convention and location? I assume I need to use a HLQ format to define it? 3. Can/should I use the same library for both batch and CICS COBOL programs for my applications? (See Note in question 1 above.) 4. Do the answers above apply to TK4- and MVS/ESA as well? Hello folks, I want to be able to access a dataset by using an alias. . . I think! For example, suppose I have the following PDSs on volume 111111: PROJECT1.CNTL.JCL PROJECT1.TEST.JCL PROJECT1.TEST.LOADLIB PROJECT1.TEST.SOURCE PROJECT1.PROD.JCL PROJECT1.PROD.LOADLIB PROJECT1.PROD.SOURCE The catalog is USERCAT.V111111. Can I reference these datasets by creating an alias such that TEST.LOADLIB or PROD.SOURCE points to the corresponding PDS? I wish to create an alias (?) such that TEST refers to PROJECT1.TEST.* or PROD refers to PROJECT1.PROD.*. Is that possible? I read up on multilevel alias facility but still confused and yes, I am an MVS newbie!

Hi All, I’m making one of my periodic attempts to explore IBM mainframe stuff for fun, and have been messing about with the TK5 distribution. For the most part things are going well, but I’m left frustrated by one niggling issue; my copy of review/revedit lacks working help. I am able to pull up the initial display of numbered sections, but upon accessing one the system just dumps me back to the previous screen, with no further information or error message I can observe. Does anyone have insight into what is going on here? I’m not sure where the full-screen help data comes from, but suspect there is something missing. Thanks for any insights ? Best, Zack.

Hi several messages printed to the console or other destinations by very different programs have the format of my subject first word. Or something like that. I understood that the last letter - 'I', 'W', or 'E' - is an indication of the "type" of message; the question is whether there is a "traditional" format for these ids, especially regarding their length. My intuition tells me it's related to space (sb37 abend stands for space management, so maybe x37 is similar?)
