Hello,

when running ./mvs with or without sudo I get the following error.
mvs_ipl: line 57: 5577 Illegal instruction (core dumped) $force_arch hercules $DAEMON -f conf/tk5.cnf > log/3033.log
log contains no data, this could very well be something I'm doing wrong, but I'm not sure what as I'm following the only installation instructions I can find.
First, you appear to use some turnkey flavor. Hence, a better place to ask is the Turnkey-MVS group.

Second, the binary from the turnkey install uses CPU instructions your particular CPU doesn't know about. The only way out is to recompile yourself. Search Google for Hercules Helper.

Re: MVS 3.8J Turnkey 5 Update-3 announced.

Quite a book! I will be digging into that. I've been working through Robert H. Johnson's 1989 MVS Concepts and Facilities book. From my explorations, I'd like to write something reasonably concise as a tutorial for the Digital Technology boy scout merit badge, as a guide for extra coursework for an AP high school class or for someone who is curious and wants to try their hand at mvs-tk5.

Introduction To The New Mainframe

is a redbook aimed at explaining the differences between PCs / Unix
computers with Mainframes / MVS / z/OS.

Bob is a retired programmer from the university's business department and I retired from state government service. We're having a lot of fun figuring this out. We both dabble in amateur radio astronomy as well and have to admit that our newfound interest in Hercules/MVS is pulling at us pretty hard. I'm documenting our learning curve so that others in the club might become interested but I have to keep in mind that it's a radio club. If you're available on Tuesdays between 1:00PM and 4PM EDT we could Zoom you in, but we're not always sitting at the table. Sometimes we're deep in a QSO on 10. I might try to create an EchoLink group were we can focus on this as well and I would love to get the group's thought as yours as to how we can expand interest in this. Maybe a Zoom group or something? Does one exist?
Right now I have tk4- running on a Akamai/Linode VPS and tk5 on my laptop. When it comes to this, I feel like I'm back in my novice days.

Re: Running MVS tk5 upt3 on Apple M2

You need to download the sources and compile it on your machine.? It is not a MVS issue.

Wow that is impressive!
The two radio clubs I belong to would never in a thousand years think of doing that.?
How can I join your group? ?

1. CTC is not the same as LCS.

2. I know nothing about how networking is configured on MVS, but all information regarding Hercules's networking device configuration file statement settings for CTCI, CTCE, PTP, LCS and OSA devices is contained in Hercules's online documentation:

Hope that helps!
