No, 802 played no part, the ETHERNET in the LINK statement specifies that the link will only use the Ethernet II protocol. If you specify 802.3 instead of ETHERNET the link will only use the 802.3 protocol, if you specify ETHEROR802.3 instead of ETHERNET the link will use both Ethernet II and?802.3 protocols. If you specify either of the 802 options, things may break!
