Can I Suspend a Member?

Is it possible to suspend a group member, so that they cannot read or post messages, without canceling the membership and later remove the suspension (or suspend for a stated time period)?? If so, how can I do that.
?
Thanks,
Dave Cahn

Here's how I do it:
1. First go to the person's member page and put them on always-moderated status.
2. Change their posting privileges to can't post
3. Change their message delivery to "no email"
?
You can either write to them to tell them you've suspended them and why, and let them know what they need to do to regain normal status -- or wait until they notice they're no longer getting messages and can't post and they write to you to ask what happened.?
?
You might also consider in advance what you think the suspension will accomplish and how the person is likely to react. For serious rule-breaking (like spamming the group), I simply ban without explanation. If I think the person legitimately didn't understand how the group works or what kinds of posts are not acceptable, I'll write and explain what they did wrong, and give them another chance, before suspending message delivery and/or cutting off posting ability.
?
One thing to consider: If you cut off posting ability without cutting off message delivery, the offender can still write to people off-list, and that can cause more trouble than ever, as you won't know what they're saying to members off-list unless someone writes to you to complain about it.?
?
One more option: Simply remove (don't ban) the member. They can write to you to ask why they were removed, and then you can explain and invite them to rejoin (that is, if you think they now understand what they can and cannot do as a member of your group).?
?
p.s. I always try to head off any "free speech" complaints by emphasizing that this is a privately-owned group and that the List Owners are the (only) ones who make the rules.

In a word, NO.? As long as they're a member, they can get to the group, so could read as they please.

The Groups.io Help Center includes the Owners Manual and Members Manual.
They can be browsed online or downloaded as PDF files.

That would not prevent them logging in to groups.io and reading messages through the web interface.

As Duane has said, NO. The only option is, as described in the manual, to BAN the person and then, if you wish, you can later unban them and allow them to rejoin.

best, Malcolm.
