A Question About Starting a New Group
Hello All,
I¡¯ve been running a high school reunion group for those of us who attended from the school¡¯s first day in 1953 through 1965 - that long only to include our younger siblings. I had to cancel allowing photos some time ago, reason being that everyone would reply and leave the photo in their response which took up too much of my time deleting them all afterwards. An idea just came to me. I am thinking of starting a second group for us - one for sharing photos only - - - but only if it can be set to no responses. Send but not respond. Is that even possible, I¡¯m wondering? Hope that¡¯s not too foolish a question! ? Maria |
It's possible but if your classmates are like mine (circa 1967) it will be confusing.

Any messages to my group which contain photos are moderated. I edit such messages and delete duplicate photos by hand. It's a little tedious, but the result is clean and some of our members have taken to heart my suggestion to reply to emails without photos so their replies are distributed immediately. Good luck. Wish I¡¯d thought of that back when I cancelled allowing photos! Unfortunately, there seems to be no way to reinstate them, a question I¡¯d asked back when. You are right that it would be confusing to many. Not all of us from that era are knowledgable technologically so should have thought of that. Thank you. Appreciate it. I see that in "announcement only" groups only moderators can post. So, not sure about how to answer your last question. You should be able to change message preferences to allow attachments (i.e. photos). pk -----Original Message-----

Change the Reply-to setting to "Only to Sender." They can still reply to whoever posted the initial message/image, but not to the group.
?
Anything coming back that meets the threading algorithm (and would otherwise post as a reply) will be bounced.

Photo attachments and photo albums are two entirely different things and have separate controls. Please explain what you want to do and we'll try help you again.

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýBruce,My abject apologies for having misunderstood. It is photo attachments?to email messages that I would like to reinstate. Am trying to find a way to allow them but not have them included in reply comments. Maria

All I can do is parrot what already Patrick said:? Moderate all messages with attachments as they arrive (screenshot below), and either remove the dupes yourself, or send the offending replies back for correction. You might want to say something about this in your group Guidelines, too.
?
It will still be a pain, but maybe less so than trying to clean things up after the fact.
?
Good luck,
Bruce?

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýBruce,I do believe I understand perfectly this time around. Again, apologies for your having to go through this twice with me.? Thank you for the screenshot too.? Will follow what both you and Patrick have recommended and moderate all messages with attachments.? Will definitely, as well, state this in our group guidelines. ?¡ª And yes, definitely better than cleaning things up after the fact.? With my difficulties with this, you¡¯ll never believe I was a web designer. Started back when websites were created by?laboriously?typing out HTML coding back in about 2001 or 2002, then graduated to more modern ways of creating them which were much easier. Ran my own business, co-founded one of the earliest digital magazines, and created and maintained websites for a few businesses as well. Retired from all of it 4 or 5 years ago. Definite example of when you don¡¯t use it, you lose it. Thanks very much to both you and Patrick! Very appreciatively, Maria
