Wrong "welcome" message being sent
We originally created our group here containing the word "test" in the name. We have since removed that, at least a day or two before giving the Go Ahead to transfer our Yahoo group. While waiting for the transfer, I did a Direct Add, and the welcome message that was received did not match the Direct Add welcome message ¡ª both in that it didn't include my custom text *and* it gives the incorrect URL (with "test" in the name).
I'm quite concerned that all 1,000 members of the old Yahoo Group will be sent this welcome message with the wrong URL. Is there anything I can do to get this straightened out ¡ª before the transfer is complete? Thanks, Brad owner,?/g/UDCommunityNetwork |
Brad, go to Admin, Settings, the tab for Member Notices and make sure that only the one you want is activated.
Click on the hyperlinked title. You will see? Active Message - a tick box Use this message.
You can also delete a message you don't want. Frances -- FAQ on Moving from YahooGroups GMF Wiki: (unofficial) Help for members (and would-be members) and group managers |

If you changed the name at Step 1 of the transfer process, you should be fine. If you changed it at Step 4, I can't imagine any good coming from that. But if I were you, I'd immediately be going to the transfer status page to see if the group names listed remain correct -- and if not, what you can do to fix it. You can fix the welcome message anytime, but you don't want your transfer to hang. Good luck, Bruce |
Yep, I got rid of ¡°test¡± in the group name well before instigating the transfer. Even before upgrading to a premium account. And I can confirm that the correct name is showing up on the transfer page (¡°awaiting transfer¡±).

Now that I know where that welcome message is stored, I¡¯ve edited the heck out of it (and made sure all the links have the correct URLs). Not a bad interface!
?
Thanks so much for your detailed reply.

Dave -- The Welcome message is an entirely different message from the Direct Add message, therefore it stands to reason that they don't match. See the system help at?/static/help#membernotices. You can only have one active Welcome message at a time. If you don't make one active, the system sends a default. Regarding Direct Add...As with invite, you have to INSERT your custom text by pulling down the Notices menu and selecting one of your member notices of type Direct Add. If you don't select any member notice, nothing will be inserted. The idea is to have multiple templates of this kind that you can select from as needed. And again, the boilerplate surrounding your custom text cannot be changed or eliminated.? Groups Settings: Be sure to update both the Group Email Address and the Group Title to reflect the change in group name. Also check the Message Footer and Subject Tag entries. More information at?/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Renaming-a-Group I hope this helps, because it's the best I can do. Regards, |
Brad,
Bruce said: You can only have one active Welcome message at a time. If you don'tYou can have none active if you want none to be sent. The time the system creates one automatically is the first time one is needed, if you haven't created one yet. Not having any welcome message is different in that way from having one or more, but none active.
