Anonymous Polling
Hello All,
Our group currently has some potentially controversial polls coming up next month. I was wondering if it is possible that the owner of the group, when creating the poll can make it so that whoever (any other member) votes, they can be sure that their vote will be anonymous. Again, so even the group owner does not know how they (the members) voted? Is there already a way to do this? I have not been able to figure it out. If not (for the folks in charge), is it possible to implement that as an option when setting up the poll?? Are there any other group owners who have had this issue come up when sending out a poll? If so, how did you go about it? Any advice? All help would be greatly appreciated!! Thank you. Sincerely, C. Lensky - Happy and Grateful Groups.io Group Owner |

However, an admin can go in and change that at any time, even after a poll has closed, so it's not 100% guaranteed.? I suggested several years ago, but I just tested and it's still the same. There are 3rd party polling services you can use. I've used them in the past, but they are not completely opaque, either. In some cases, you might be able to see who voted, but not how they voted. -P.? On Sun, Nov 12, 2023, 1:52?PM Duane <txpigeon@...> wrote: On Sun, Nov 12, 2023 at 12:21 PM, C. Thank you Duane and Peter.
I was hoping we could do a poll where an admin and/or owner could not look at how the members voted. Kind of stymmies people from voting if they know that admins and owners can all see how they voted. Seems like it would not be a difficult thing to implement just toss the 'who' part of the responds to a trash bin folder. With Kind Regards. Celestia? |

Anonymity aside, there are plenty of other reasons to be disenchanted with the groups.io polling system. To me, the main one is that people must log in to vote. Many subscribers struggle with this, or at least don't try very hard to figure it out. Instead, they often reply via email...which eliminates any chance of keeping their votes secret anyway. Even when explicit instructions are provided and you put a hashtag on the poll topic so people can't reply, forcing subscribers to jump through any kind of technical hoop is bound to skew the results. ? The general membership has not asked and probably would not care but we do have a specific executive group running the main group and that is where the question came up. Our group has no problems with logging in to vote etc. Although it does take time to hand help sometimes when new members are added to the group so those new members understand how to navigate the groups.io in general. That only takes some time and patience on the part of the volunteers, but it is possible and is done whenever needed. We?do set up a separate hashtag in the groups.io when votes come up for everyone which I think makes it easier for the general membership. It just seems that a dedicated group site should have the ability for members in the group vote to be anonymous as a basic feature. Thank you again. Celestia |
