Transferring Small Yahoo Groups
I have just joined this forum. I own two long-standing Restricted Yahoo Groups with about 100 members each and well under 1 GB of pictures and files.
With the recent changes in Yahoo Groups I want to move these groups to groups.io, including the membership, pictures and files now on the Yahoo Group. When I just read the instructions to do this, I note groups.io now "ask that you sign up for the Premium Yearly plan." It that Premium Plan a request or a requirement for such small groups? It has been a while since I checked how to move Yahoo Groups but I thought with such small groups and limited storage the groups.io service was free. -- Best wishes, Larry McDavid Anaheim, California (SE of Los Angeles, near Disneyland) |

After that, you may downgrade. If you don't want your files/photos/messages transferred, or are willing to do it manually yourself, you can still initiate a new group on the Basic plan and not pay anything. It has been a while since I checked how to move Yahoo Groups but I thought with such small groups and limited storage the groups.io service was free. The transfer process is not fully automated and takes some manpower. At one point it was free, but the volume of transfers eventually reached the point that groups.io management could no longer continue doing that much work without any compensation. The price of procrastination, I guess. Hope this helps, Bruce |

How can you upgrade for a month? Is there a pro-rata payment, or do weIf you go to Admin>Upgrade and click the "View/Change Plan" button, there are options for Premium Yearly or Premium Monthly. You might find a month of Premium handy if you want to Direct Add subscribers to your group without going through the invitation process. It is also a lot cheaper ($10 vs $110). However, if you want groups.io to attempt to move your message archive, files and photos and so on (in addition to your subscribers), you have to pay the $110. This payment also allows you to re-try the transfer later if some content doesn't make it over, due to ongoing Yahoo server issues. The money has to be paid up-front and there are no refunds. Hope this helps, Bruce |

Direct Add is achieved almost exactly like sending an Invitation. The screens even look almost identical. The only real difference is that the subscription proposal does not have to be accepted on the receiving end. The people being added are shanghaied directly into the group, do not have to confirm their accounts, and will begin to receive group emails immediately. This can be very handy if you have a lot of people who are afraid to click on links in emails or otherwise struggle with the normal invitation process. Paying for Premium every year and using Direct Add instead of Invite has saved my primary group a lot of hand-holding. All that said -- in the context of migrating from Yahoo Groups on the cheap -- there is nothing to prohibit you from keeping that ten bucks in your pocket and simply using the Invite process instead. The files and photos definitely aren't gone. I've been downloading all afternoon. That said, the files are much easier to access than the photos. I get errors frequently when trying to download photos. I expect Yahoo is a bit overwhelmed at the demand right now, since so many of us are doing the same thing.?
