Profile Photo, and Display vs User Name?

So far as Owner I've transferred 7 of my 10 YahooGroups to Groups.io and all seems to have gone well. I expect to OK the transfer of the other 3 after group meetings this week.
?
The Groups.io Help section is pretty good, but doesn't cover everything.
?
?
Subscription: Group Profile: Edit Group Profile
?
?
Profile Photo:
I see a picture that I didn't select. It happens to be my current Facebook and YahooGroups Profile Picture. I do like it, but how did it get to Groups.io? as part of the transfer?
?
BTW I never sign in with my profile from one thing into another (e.g. Facebook profile to sign in to YahooGroups) - as I do not wish to cross-contaminate.
?
?
Display vs User Name:
?
There is a "User Name": @mjp?
Those are my initials, but what is this?
What is this for?
How did it get here on Groups.io? I do use my middle initial in one of my email addresses, but not this one and never in my name attached any of my email addresses?
Is this a Twit handle? I never did Twitter. I barely text, and only if I have to.
Shouldn't this be my actual name?
I can't see how to get rid of or change it.
I haven't found a User Name for any member, including the only other one with a Profile Picture or my 4 other email addresses; nor for a Moderator or the other Owner (yet another email address of mine) - they all say: "User name is not set."
?
I see "Display Name (The name listed with your posts.)"
I presume it got here because I do use my email address in the form of My Actual Name <username@domain>
I can change it, and as Owner (in Admin: Members) I've been putting member's actual names here that didn't have it, which also puts them in the Directory making it more usable.
While typing actual names as Display Name, sometimes 'auto fill' options show up - if I choose the bottom choice the member's name is entered, however if I choose the top choice my name is entered with a temporary yellow background (a warning?).
?
The Help section's Definitions does not define or explain these, nor can I find that information anywhere else.

That's all very peculiar, and not in keeping with my experience with groups.io

My guess [read: wild stab in the dark] is that your browser is auto-filling this information. None of it will be saved to your account and/or profile unless you click on the save/update buttons.

Hope this helps,
Bruce

Did you add a photo when you joined groups.io?? By default, that one gets copied to any groups you join.? You can see which one, if any, is being used on each group by going to your account (upper right, click your name, select Account), then going to the Identity page where you'll find them all shown.? You can also edit them from that page.? If you change something for one group, it's not supposed to 'trickle down' any changes made to the site account for that item.? There's a Profile Reset button at the bottom of each group page, too.

Well maybe I did, and created the User Name too.
I joined and started a new group on May 5. This month I created 10 Groups.io and so far have transferred 7 of my 10 YahooGroups - my head is kind of spinning going back and forth between all of them, especially trying to get everything set up and organized how I want it, and notifying and explaining the transfer and differences to Moderators and Members.

This User Name thing, with the @ sign - is this a Twitter address or what? I don¡¯t twit. How is it used and by whom? Where and how will I get any messages from someone using it?

Yes it¡¯s the same for all my 11 Groups.io plus GMF and updates

If you change something for one group, it's not supposed to 'trickle down' any changes made to the site account for that item. There's a Profile Reset button at the bottom of each group page, too.
Good to know.

Thanks

Michael,

This User Name thing, with the @ sign - is this a Twitter address or
what?
Or what.

It is a site-wide unique name for the user. If the user sets one. At one time it was to be a shorthand for a link to the user's Account profile. But that never come to pass. It was also discussed as an alternative to putting the user's email address in the From field of "anonymous" groups. But that too was never implemented.

How is it used and by whom? Where and how will I get any messages from
someone using it?
It isn't and you won't. For now.
