Yahoo now OATH

I just logged onto my Yahoo account to delete my YGroups which have been successfully moved to groups.io
The following message came up: "Yahoo is now part of Oath, the media and tech company behind today¡¯s top news, sports and entertainment sites and apps."
It went on to list their terms of service, etc.

My group members are happy with the move and relieved we no longer have to deal with Yahoo's total disregard for their customers.

Larry,

The following message came up: "Yahoo is now part of Oath, the media
and tech company behind today¡¯s top news, sports and entertainment
sites and apps."
That Verizon bought Yahoo's internet properties, including Yahoo Groups, and put them under the Oath division is old news.

Note that the name Yahoo lives on as a brand name under Oath. So far at least they've not decided to re-brand any of the services.

It went on to list their terms of service, etc.
That's probably the reason for the notice. Many internet companies have recently revised their terms of service and/or privacy policies ahead of the new law going into effect in most of Europe.

If I recall correctly, Oath started presenting a new TOS to users of Yahoo Mail and Yahoo Groups (and presumably other formerly Yahoo properties) several weeks ago; establishing their name as the service provider, replacing Yahoo Inc.

My group members are happy with the move ...
Some of us here still have an interest in Yahoo-related things (groups hosted there), but I imagine that will continue to dwindle over time.

Shal

May I suggest you do not delete the YG but make it moderated.
That way you can catch any of your members who have not logged in to GIO.

I thought of that too late for one of my transfers.

I would also sugget that you read my post #1429?on this group to see how I set up a "signpost" to encourage those who found our Yahoo group to come over to join us on groups.io.? It's pretty simple but very effective.

Bob, I'd like to see that, but searching the group messages for 1429 or #1429 yields nothing but this message. Can you provide a direct link, or better way to search for a message number?

Thank you.

Scott

Scott, I found it by searching for Bob Bellizzi and then selecting message #1429 from the list (thankfully there weren't many messages to scroll down to find it).?

You can also select the Messages view (instead of Topics) and enter the message number in the box at the upper right. It will be the first one on the results page.

Not only to find AWOL members from their new home is a backup archive important, it adds insurance of retention of all your list's posts until the transfer and if you list has valuable content, this insures its content will not be permanently lost if adverse events occur on one of the archives. I have had such adverse events, so I am not writing from a hypothetical position here. One can even keep posting to the old archive all new posts to continue the backup.

I like that, Bob.
Unfortunately, the owner of that one list had gone AWOL over 20 years ago and as moderator I did not have permission to change the banner or invitation.
Therefore I deleted all from that list after the successful transfer and only the owner and I remain as members.
