Members being erroneously unsubscribed

Has anyone else seen this? I've had a number of members who were somehow unsubscribed through no intervention of their own, nor by any of the moderators. Yesterday it happened again. I asked the member if she had gone to her settings page on the web and she said no. Yet the activity log entry says? "name <email address> left via web."
?
She received a message saying?
?
You have been unsubscribed from [email protected]. You will receive no more emails from that group. If this was a mistake, you can resume your subscription within the next 7 days by clicking the following link:

I am mystified.

Yes, I've had that happen many times. But in that case the log entry would show that a member reported a message as spam and was removed. In this case it indicates that the member removed herself.

Indeed so Pete. In this case I suspect (but can't be sure) that the issue is with an account/address which which was put into the RI state and never actually Reverified, and finally, for whatever reason, has been removed from the system.

best, Malcolm.

That¡¯s a good thought, Malcom, but she¡¯s not flagged as either RS or RI, and her activity log doesn¡¯t have any evidence of ever being in either status. And again, the log shows her removing herself, which is flat out wrong.?So I don¡¯t get it.

Its curious that you appear to be the only one having this problem

Are you absolutely sure they are not doing something themselves?

Such as clicking unsubscribe at the foot of each post, thinking its unsubscribing from that thread or topic? (instead of mute this topic)

Otherwise why are no others reporting the same problem?

(Followup) I see that you're correct that clicking the? unsubscribe link in the footer, and confirming they want to leave the group, does result in the "left via web" log entry.
?
Still, it seems unlikely that a reasonably tech-savvy person would go through all of that inadvertently. I'll do some more digging.

For what it is worth, I have also had this happen periodically with various members. Not often, but enough for me to notice. I have always assumed that they accidentally clicked on the Unsubscribe at the bottom of an email.

Clicking on the Unsubscribe link at the bottom of an email takes you to the Groups.io website where it gives you options to change your subscription settings, Cancel or definitely confirm that you want to leave a group.? So, it has to be a positive action to leave and I would say it's extremely difficult and unlikely that the whole process could be done accidentally.
