Margery -- As you might imagine under the circumstances, this has been reported by others recently (ref:?/g/GroupManagersForum/message/19218). The speculation is that groups.io may throttle back on how quickly you can create groups as protection against spammers. Note also that all new groups undergo an initial review to ensure that they meet the?Groups.io Terms of Service. This can also introduce delays.

Since Joe M has not returned with more complaints it appears to have been a temporary condition. Please let us know if you continue to have problems along these lines tomorrow.

Hope this helps,

Creating New Groups - Limit?

Could not find this so apologies if it is in the wiki - to move all of our groups from yahoogroups to groups.io, it means creating a total of 24 new groups.? I was able to create 12 of them yesterday and then 8 this morning.? Is there a limit as to how many groups we can create at a time?? I still have 4 more to add.

Thanks,
Margery

P.S. I have access to all of our corporate email accounts if you need to
communicate with me through the email associated with that test group.

I setup a group for testing some time ago under an account which I can¡¯t
remember. I also just set up a new account and it shows me as a member of
the aforementioned group but not the owner. How do I delete or move that
former test group to my current account? Or do I need to put in a support
ticket and can you do it internally? I can¡¯t remember the name of the
account.

I saw this message when I sent the invitation, too. ?However when I went back to my Yahoo group¡¯s invite page, it told me I could only invite 99 more members that day so I knew it had gone out.

when you check back on the Transfer page for your IOG group, you should see a message saying your invitation was received and you don¡¯t need to do anything more until it is accepted.

The transfer agent will do nothing to your Yahoo group. All it does is copy the content.

If we use the test group (which includes the word test); can the group be renamed afterwards?
Yes, but it is not recommended. Better to rename it now, prior to the transfer, or having a bunch of people join and/or post. See?/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Renaming-a-Group

Our network includes over 600 members.? Can groups.io handle that volume?
Easily.

If we need more than 1GB of storage, how do we obtain it.
You will have to either upgrade to Premium access, or delete some of your group content.?

Upgrading to Premium is achieved via Admin>Upgrade and clicking on the "View/Change Plan" button. See?/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Managing-Attachments%2C-Files-and-Photos and also?/static/pricing

Migration questions

Hi,

We are considering switching our community network to groups.io.? I have created a test group.? I have a few questions.

  1. If we migrate to groups.io does our Yahoo group cease to function and are posts no longer get available through Yahoo?
  2. If we use the test group (which includes the word test); can the group be renamed afterwards?
  3. Our network includes over 600 members.? Can groups.io handle that volume?
  4. If we need more than 1GB of storage, how do we obtain it.

Thank you for your assistance.

JoAnne

You explained it well Bruce. Hopefully I will be able to get this fixed. One of my group members was able to post to the group without an issue. That really has me scratching my head LOL...
THANKS for your help... REGARDS, JOHN

Bob -- One of the advantages of groups.io is that you don't need to have to set up a separate "account," just an email address.

Now that they are transferred to groups.io, their email in their profile is the Yahoo email. Is there an issue if they log into groups.io and change their email to one they regularly use? Is this even possible.
Yes. The process is fairly straightforward, but some folks seem to struggle with it anyway.

As you noted, they will first have to log in. It is possible to login without a password, using the "email me a link" method. However, I do recommend that all subscribers establish a login password eventually. More detailed login instructions can be found here:??/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Logging-In

Once logged in, go to your Account page. This can be done by pulling down the menu at top right and selecting Account, or simply browsing to?/account

The top box of your Account page should display the email address currently associated with your login. Type in your new email address, overwriting what is already there.

Click the "Change Email" button, and look for the?email that will be sent to the new email address. Click on the link in that email and you will be all set.

Please note that those having Premium groups are capable of changing the email address of subscribers for them. If you want instructions for that, let us know.

Hope this helps,
Bruce

Can't Send Messages to Group

JOHN

I just signed up with I also created a group. For some reason I can't send messages to the group. All the messages I sent via failed to be delivered to the group.

I used what I thought the email address: [email protected] I used the address that I registered with as the sender. One of the group members is able to post messages without any problem. I'm at a loss as to why this issue is occurring. Please assist me to find a solution. Thank you

Sam -- There is no "new user questionnaire" function in groups.io. But if you are using the Restricted Membership method of Spam Control, many owners use the Pending Subscription notice to poll prospective members for desired information prior to approving them.

As usual, there is more information on this in the GMF wiki. See?/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Screening-New-Members-Using-the-Pending-Subscription-Notice

Thanks.

Yahoo says "Sorry, an error occurred while loading the content."? Does anyone else get this issue?
As Duane stated, you have to send an invitation...from your YAHOO group. If you've never done this before, instructions can be found at??

Having said that, it sometimes happens that Yahoo will throw the above-mentioned "ugly purple box error" when an invitation is attempted. Usually, the invitation has gone out anyway. Hmmm...are you glad you're leaving them yet?

To be sure, go back to the groups.io transfer page at?/yahootransfer. Pull down the Existing Transfers menu at bottom right and select the group that you're trying to transfer. A status bar should appear at the top of the resulting page. If it says something along the lines of "we have received your invitation and will accept it soon...", then everything is fine. If not, the invitation did not go out. Return to Yahoo and try again.

When the transfer agent accepts the invitation, groups.io will send you an email with further instructions.

Hope this helps,
Bruce

Re: Yahoo not allowing [email protected] to be added to membership #yahoo

Sorry!? That's what I meant.? I tried to send [email protected] an invitation, and Yahoo gave me the error "Sorry, an error occurred while loading the content."

There shouldn't be. The route is as follows:

Log in to groups.io, then click on the "personal identifier" at the top right hand corner of the screen. Select Account, and at the top of the resulting page they will find their registered email address aliong with a button to edit it.

However, that email address is a Groups.io - wide Account setting, and will be applicable to all their groups listed under their log in; for a single log in only one email address is possible, although their Display Name can be different for different subsciptions (memberships)

For "chapter and verse" see the GMF wiki here, particularly these two sections: Logging In and Setting a Password and Profile and Email Address. The GMF wiki is publicly acessible so feel free to tell your members about them.

You can't add it to the membership, you have to send an invitation.

Shouldn't be any problem if they haven't used the "new" address to create an account.? If they've already created an account with the "new" address, the old one can be merged into it.
