Mbox imports
Mark just posted this on the API subgroup of beta.? Since it's not a group that many would pay attention to (52 members), I thought I should repost it here for clarification of some previous messages:

Re: Messages Display Default
Thanks, Duane ...? That does the trick ... but since my groups (only 2) are already displayed on the screen of the overview page, my inclination is to just double-click on the desired group instead of going through the extra step of using the "Your Groups" drop-down.? Oh, well ...

We had groups.io transfer our 2 yahoo listserv email lists (with overlapping membership) into 2 separate subgroups of our new main group. The transfer seemed to go fine; each sub-group ended up with 500+ members, which was what I expected. |
Re: [SOLVED]Catch-22: Can't Transfer Yahoo Group
Doug, I've actually had and solved this problem. Yahoo sent out a message several months ago that some people ignored. It stated that if you owned or moderated a group with an ID other than *@yahoo.com, many of your privileges would soon be disabled. At that I was owning the group with "marks@..." which was a Yahoo service, but slightly different mail agent.? AT&T validates the login password, too. Fearing future difficulties (but not anticipating the shutdown), I created a second ID, lvmarks2000@.... I subscribed it. Then with my original ID, I made the second ID also a moderator. Never touched the second ID for months. It was just insurance. Then, when I needed to do a PG Offline download, the original ID wouldn't work. BUT THE SECOND ONE DID! There is no reason to think that this same procedure won't work for you: 1) Create a real, native Yahoo ID 2) Give it Moderator privileges using your original ID 3) Give that ID to GIO and ask them to try again. BTW, the founder of GIO seems to be an honorable person. If the group doesn't upload, I have every reason to believe that he will refund your money. Larry |

You can invite 100 more members today.
Send email to invite people to join your
group. Enter email addresses or Yahoo IDs separated by commas. You can
add first name and last name of the members you are inviting.? Example:
firstname lastname <emailid@...> Invited users need to accept the invitation, sign-in with their Yahoo ID to become members.

Re: Catch-22: Can't Transfer Yahoo Group
Doug, To invite new members, Yahoo requires that they have a "Yahoo ID" [account] with a valid Yahoo email address.
The text on the Invite Members page says you can enter an email address.
See the screen shot at Step 3 here: SHAME on IO for not knowing this, and simply providing <[email protected]>. Yeah, like you're the first person to ever try this. And stupid of me to have pre-paid $220 (in STEP 1) without being able to execute Step 3. Well, that may be true. On that same wiki page see the section Test your ability to promote members in your Yahoo Group -- In Step 4 you have one more requirement beyond simply inviting the transfer address. You cannot send an invitation? Are you a moderator or owner of the Yahoo group?
I just recently completed my 10th or so transfer, maybe Yahoo will no longer allow you to invite members? I noticed things changed a bit on Yahoo groups, but I went to one of my Yahoo groups and I can still make invitations. Greg |

Unable to "invite" <[email protected]> to become a member of my existing Yahoo group, which is Step 3 in the transfer process.
