Re: Goodbye Yahoo Groups

Oh man, missed that bit. THAT will be a huge issue on my groups. What will happen to all those on digest when the change happens, do you think? They just won't get any emails at all??

Oh yes thank you for bringing that up! My list of 10,000+ members is a high volume list so if the digest function goes away, people are going to be upset.?

Under the circumstances, I'd be pretty happy with that!

Hitherto there has been little discipline amongst members about naming of albums or photos, making searching difficult to say the least. Is there any way of forcing hashtags to photos in the same way that they are forced to messages?
There is no such functionality, but you can update the names of photo albums yourself. Just click the Edit Album button and change the Title field to something more mnemonic.

Hope this helps,
Bruce

Confusion re Upgrade payment #transfer #upgrade

Bee

Hi, I have a problem with trying to upgrade my group in order to have a transfer from Yahoo.

I accidentally payed for the 1 month Premium. ?When I realised it had only take $10 from my card, I went back and tried to upgrade to the full Yearly Premium package.?

My group is now listed as having the full Yearly Premium package selected. ?However the only payment saying ¡®successful¡¯ is the $10 one.

I need the $10 refunded and the $110 payment put through. ? I don¡¯t know if the $110 has gone through yet as it takes a while to show on my credit card account. ? I have initiated the invite from my Yahoo group but now I¡¯m unsure if my group is actually in the correct Yearly Premium package - it SAYS it is but as I say, the only successful transaction listed is for the monthly - and therefore I don¡¯t know if my group-transfer will go ahead? ? So far no response to the invite but I would think there is a backlog to work through.

Any advice??
Thanks in advance.

Re: Browser crash when uploading a file

Tom -- Some files have in the past been reported to cause a "broken-link" type thing to appear in the dialog box, trying to render a thumbnail image. But that was a cosmetic problem; if you subsequently clicked on the "Add" button the upload proceeded anyway.

But for that FITS file, I tried it too, and had to reboot my computer to get a browser window (Chrome) back.

So this is a new one on me, and I suspect only support can help you. Be sure to tag it with a #bug hashtag to catch his eye. Some things can linger in the queue for quite some time after initial triage, but he's usually pretty quick about fixing actual bugs.

Bruce

Regarding the last sentence:?
You won't be able to use the group's Conversations section to post a New Topic or Reply, but you will still be able to post or reply to the group from your email interface. Hint: be sure your membership is set to receive Individual Emails.
Do you mean the digests won't work anymore after Oct 28 or Dec 14?

Hi. You could use the ¡°pending subscription¡± notice as a way to do it.

Hi, I'm not exactly how to phrase this question, so I hope I can make it clear.

I want to move a yahoo group (doesn't everybody, now?)? We actually looked at moving a while ago, but could not find a feature we depend on, namely, the ability to vet an application for entry.? ?We ask people who would like to join to share a sentence or two about what qualifies them to join us.? We are a support group where sensitive things are shared and don't really want looky-loos or researchers, and while we can't be sure they are not lying, our experience is that asking people to state their qualifications tends to keep out a lot of the riff-raff.

On Yahoo, that statement appears next to the applicant's name on a page available to all moderators, so it's a simple matter of checking the approve button if the statement passes muster, or sending a followup email if the person failed to provide any info or if they say something like "I'm a student of this thing"

I manage a neighborhood list here on Groups.io, and have seen that all I get is a notification email that somebody wants in, there doesn't seem to be a place for them to put anything but their email.? I wind up blindly approving new folks there, as we are hardly a magnet for anybody not in the neighborhood.

Is there a way we can do this sort of vetting on Groups.io?

Yes; set up a Pending Subscription Message; this will automatically be sent to anyone who applies to join, and you can ask them to explain their interest in your group and admit them (or otherwise) depending on their reply.

Re: Goodbye Yahoo Groups

Email messages/posts will 'pass-through' but NOT be saved/stored nor able to be read 'on-site' (as some of us preferred, who used email only as a backup or as email search is sometimes better the YahOop's searches.)

Digests will not exist, so if you are in 12 lists that generate 12 emails daily you might want rmto create 12 Folders in your email to separate them.

I am confused, but maybe someone here can clarify.? What content will exist if all user-generated content is deleted? Emails are user generated. I understand that all downloads are going away - photos, links, attachments, files, etc., but will conversations also be gone? If they are being deleted, then what does "the ability to post and receive by email" mean? Will we be able to post to the site, but then, after some specific amount of time, the posts will disappear?

Pretty much nothing. See?

Yes, conversations will be gone.

No, you will not be able to post to the site.

You *will* be able to post to the group via email and receive group messages via email.?On the web, group owners will have access to limited administrative functions. The only web functions remaining for subscribers will be associated with searching for available groups and maintaining their group subscriptions.

Re: lock or moderate topic questions

I just had to lock a topic on my forum, but I am puzzled by the fact that I can check BOTH lock and moderate on the same topic. What is the result if I do check both?
Su -- My experience suggests that locking overrides moderating...meaning that if the topic is locked, incoming posts on that topic get waylaid by the lock before they ever land in moderation.

Also, regarding how to handle this type of thing in the future. If I change the topic to reply to sender, will replies to the original email go to the group or to the sender?
It depends.

Replies entered via the web interface should respect the change. However, there is no way to retrieve sent emails and change the reply-to fields...so replies people send via their email client will be routed according to the original header content.

Hope this helps,
Bruce

I did the same (signed up for transferal today) but I can definitely still see photos on my Yahoo group.

Group Transfer Issue

We have a group for Transfer but have a crippling issue; Only 1.Moderator remains and he cannot make the io.transfer (name?) also a Moderator.

It might do now but it certainly didn't when "we" migrated at the end of 2017. I "lost" ownership of material I had uploaded on to the Yahoo group because at the request of the ultimate owner I had signed up to the new Groups.io group prior to the migration.

YahooGroups to groups.io > should have done it sooner! #transfer

Pablo Sanchez

Hi everyone,

For the most part our migration from Yahoo Groups to groups.io has been seamless.? We had about 1,000 members on YG.

I've made some errors ... :p ... but it's a breath of fresh air to have software that rocks:??

  • Hyperlinked?Table of Contents - you bet!
  • HTML? - check
  • Inline images? - damn right!
  • Attachments? - mais oui (French for:??but of course!)
I was thinking, wouldn't it be cool to have per Group, a funding thermometer to collect donations.? In the end, I will probably end up with 700 members.? If our Group's goal was a measly 10 USD, we could raise 120 USD a year.? 120 USD is more than zero (Basic)!

Thx!
