See??for an article on this. It really only works well for static web pages, though. Those who hang their hat on retrieving Yahoo Groups content in this manner will no doubt be sorely disappointed.

Re: Goodbye Yahoo Groups

Me neither. I have 20 YahooGroups lists but one list has over 10,000 members. Others are 2,000 members or less.
I am not paying for anything.

Tom -- Do a search of this group for "GDPR" and you'll get all the hits you could possibly want. Notifying members of your plans is a good idea in any event, if you don't want them to think they've somehow been shanghaied and prompt a wholesale unsubscribe.

If anyone complains and asked not to be transferred, you can enter their email address on the "Exclude Emails" box on the transfer page and that content will be left behind.

If I uncheck the ¡°Transfer Members¡± checkbox when migrating, can someone confirm that my Yahoo members¡¯ email and other profile info do not come across and that my Yahoo members will not be notified in any way?

That is correct.

What happens to posts in the above scenario? Are email addresses removed from the postmark/banners of Yahoo messages?

No.?

I suspect the infrastructure at Yahoo is failing. During the past weeks, files and attachments have been inaccessible.? Does anyone have any additional insight into this?

I believe we can only speculate regarding that.

? Can I migrate everything possible today, and then retry file migration in a week or two, in the unlikely (IMO) that Yahoo fixes their problem?

Yes.

I may be merging a second Yahoo group into this one. I¡¯ve read somewhere here I¡¯ll be able to do that.

Yes. The only confirmed downside that I recall is that the messages that come in from the second transfer will not be interleaved with those of the first by date. This is rarely a problem, as people do not normally browse the message archive in "sequence number order" anyway. I also don't recall any discussion and don't know what impact this may have on the "messages by month" display on your home page.?

Hope this helps,
Bruce

I think I've only added 10 or so today.

It's bad enough I have to do this manually now, but even that stopped working.

Use your wife's email address, have her join, then you can promote her to co-owner, use her address to add 10 more.

Then, use each of your kids' email addresses and do the same.

Did I really suggest that?

Thanks, but that is not it. One name is 6 chars long and all letters.

Susan -- Again, if you pay to transfer files and photos, your subscribers will be transferred, too.

It costs $110 to do this.

The complete process is outlined in this message:??/g/GroupManagersForum/message/8697

Of course, that all assumes that Yahoo servers are cooperating.

If you visit your Yahoo group and cannot see files and photos online, chance are the transfer agent won't be able to get them either.

Hope this helps,
Bruce

The group name cannot be more than 32 characters, so that may be a factor.

Migration questions

Edited

I¡¯m the owner of a Yahoo group.

?

I¡¯m planning a migration. I have just paid my annual premium groups.io fee and set up a forum.

?

I worry about GDPR compliance if I automatically migrate users. So I¡¯m planning to notify them myself about the move. (I¡¯ve grabbed the email addresses of all members from the Yahoo group.)

?

If I uncheck the ¡°Transfer Members¡± checkbox when migrating, can someone confirm that my Yahoo members¡¯ email and other profile info do not come across and that my Yahoo members will not be notified in any way?

?

What happens to posts in the above scenario? Are email addresses removed from the postmark/banners of Yahoo messages?

?

I suspect the infrastructure at Yahoo is failing. During the past weeks, files and attachments have been inaccessible.? Does anyone have any additional insight into this?? Can I migrate everything possible today, and then retry file migration in a week or two, in the unlikely (IMO) that Yahoo fixes their problem?

?

I may be merging a second Yahoo group into this one. I¡¯ve read somewhere here I¡¯ll be able to do that.

Any suggestions or help on any of the above?

Donald:

The Chrome applications that Mark Fletcher wrote for downloading Yahoo! Groups members and messages still work in the current version of Chrome. I used both of them successfully today. Here are the steps I used up to the point that I opened the Yahoo members download app in Chrome. From that point on the built-in directions are clear. You can use the same basic steps for the Yahoo messages download app.

? 1. Open Chrome and go to the page.

? 2. Follow the instructions to "download the Zip file YahooMembersApplication.zip, then create a directory for it, then copy the Zip file contents to the directory." Skip the rest of those instructions.

? 3. In Chrome, in the far upper-right corner, click on the three vertical dots.

? 4. Hover the cursor over More Tools and select Extensions.

? 5. Be sure the Developer mode in the upper right corner is toggled ON.

? 6. In the upper left, click on Load unpacked.

? 7. Navigate to the directory/folder where you copied the contents of the unZipped file and click on Select. Yahoo Group Members Import0.4 should be displayed under Chrome Apps.

? 8. Open a new tab and click on Apps (far left on the Bookmarks Bar).

? 9. Click on the Yahoo Group Member ... app and the Yahoo Group Members Import page should open.

10. Follow the instructions on that page. Be sure you are signed in to Yahoo!.

I hope this works for you,

Robert

Joe,

1. How do I create a new topic on this list?
image.png

2. I've been creating new groups, but I'm stuck on one where I click CRATE GROUP and it takes me to my groups without creating it.

HELP!!! I have about 50 more groups to add tonight!

There may be an anti-spammer limit to the rate at which you're allowed to create new groups.

The group name I'm adding follows the rules - it's all one long alphanumberic name (letters and numbers)

Re: Goodbye Yahoo Groups

I've been correcting people on that all day long.

Two questions:

1. How do I create a new topic on this list?

2. I've been creating new groups, but I'm stuck on one where I click CRATE GROUP and it takes me to my groups without creating it.

HELP!!! I have about 50 more groups to add tonight!

Any photos attached to a message that are at least 100 pixels in the shortest dimension will automatically appear in the Emailed Photos folder (unless you disable photo albums altogether).

Embedded photos may or may not, depending on how they are embedded.
