Re: Yahoo now OATH
David P. Dillard
Not only to find AWOL members from their new home is a backup archive important, it adds insurance of retention of all your list's posts until the transfer and if you list has valuable content, this insures its content will not be permanently lost if adverse events occur on one of the archives. I have had such adverse events, so I am not writing from a hypothetical position here. One can even keep posting to the old archive all new posts to continue the backup.

That's how I was planning to organize it. I was mainly asking about transferring the Yahoogroups, with each groups' files/archive/etc.? Can it be done properly and automatically, or will I have to do anything special, or what, without scrambling/overwriting ? There shouldn't be any problem doing that as long as your groups don't use more total space than your allocated storage. |

Why don't you simply report this as a bug to [email protected],?attaching sufficient documentation to back it up.
I reiterate the claim, previously stated, that Mark is sensitive to bugs and typically jumps right on them. BTW your complant about fixing others' bugs reminds me of how long so many people put up with yahoo's crappy stuff and Microsoft's in many cases. I did a lot of that as Microsoft's first commercial customer (for Basic on the 8080) in the early 1970's when they were working out of a single room at Altair's offices in AZ.?? Use of groups.io is strictly on a voluntary basis.? If I felt that groups.io didn't perform up to my expectations and I was paying for the service, as I am, I would be looking elsewhere. -- Bob Bellizzi The Corneal Dystrophy Foundation |

three yahoo groups to one GIO group?
#subgroups
#transfer
#yahoo
I have three yahoo groups for a single club:? SoARChat, SoARBusiness, and SoARBOD.? The first is for anyone, the second is for paid members of the club, and the third is for the board of the club, with corresponding permissions.? The main problem with this set up is the potential for double- or even triple-posting, and members who forget to subscribe to the chat, and so miss the general discussions, or members who forget to subscribe to the business group and never get event updates/cancellations.?? It sounds like I can just set up a single GIO group, and set it up to have the subgroups Chat, Business, and BOD.? Each subgroup would have its own settings. Then I would just assign the subgroups to people as they subscribe to the main group.? ? would I be able to transfer the three groups (with their associated files/photos/data/archive) to the new group without scrambling things up? Or can the transfer of each go to a subgroup vs. the main group??? |

Re: Can a Moderator move a group?
As long as you have the permission needed to make transfer@ groups.io a moderator, that will do. As mentioned in the instructions, that account needs no permissions enabled.

This group is other users of the site and no one from Groups.io monitors it. We have no official capacity and can only attempt to figure out why people are having difficulties. It seems to me that if it were a problem with Exchange servers that all members using any of the MS email services - Outlook, MSN, etc. - would have problems and that's not happening. Unless MS isn't using their own product.
