Re: Down for Maintenance Notice
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýI didn¡¯t even know there was a site closure for maintenance, let alone a notice it was going to be done. I have experienced a couple site closures in the past (which is to be expected from time to time), but it didn¡¯t really bother me because I had other things I could do. The good thing is Groups.io is not buggy like YG was/is, which was much more frustrating to me, and the reason I moved our group. ? Don FOGgers Owner and Moderator |
Re: Down for Maintenance Notice
Chris,
Can I suggest a request on the beta group, suggesting that planned downtime be given publicity beyond the very limited number of beta habitu¨¦s? You may suggest it, but unless someone actually posts to beta (or support) about it, no one employed by Groups.io will know about it. Even if it had been published on this Group then there is absolutely no certainty that every Group Owner would have known about it; even 849 members must be a lot less than the total number of Owners. When I looked just now there were 6777 listed groups, plus an unknown number of unlisted ones. Not to mention apparently over 2.25 million users. ? it is unacceptable not to have well publicized advance notice when groups.io will be down for maintenance. You need to also consider that "maintenance" can include unscheduled downtime, such as equipment failure. In addition to the other replies, there was a notice at the top of every page early this morning that the downtime was coming up. Monday I did a direct add to our group ?( nbtpchoir ) and received confirmation that it was approved and individuals would be notified. However there are still no individual members added. There is no subscriber activity needed and you won't receive further notifications (unless that address starts bouncing or something). If they aren't there yet, try again; be sure each email address is correct and on a separate line. Hope this helps, Bruce |

If paid - for then I can see your point. I don't know how many groups Groups.io supports but I would have thought that a notification could have been sent to all Group Owners. I knew about it from the beta group and as a result posted a warning this morning at 0630 (UK time) (automated, via our Calendar) so that our members (a free Group BTW) would have a few hours' notice. However, the beta group has (at the time of writing) 456 members, which is less than 0.1% of those who are listed for "updates". Steve,
I sure hope there was a good reason earlier this morning, it is unacceptable not to have well publicized advance notice when will be down for maintenance. Here's the reason (and the advance notice): Arguably it should also have appeared here: Shal -- Help: /static/help More Help: /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki Even More Help: Search button at the top of Messages list |
Transfer Algorithm
Glenn Glazer
Since I just transferred a group with some Yahoo! induced hiccups, I thought I would write down the steps as they make sense to me.? Perhaps this will be helpful others.
1. Start the first transfer request. 2. Note what Yahoo! didn't provide groups.io with to transfer, such as files or photos or databases or whatever.? If nothing, stop. 3. Go to /yahootransfer and in the lower right corner, it says "In Process".? 4. Select the appropriate group from the drop down to the right of "In Process". 5. Delete the current request if required. 6. Fill out the form requesting a new transfer and only check the boxes for what was missing in 2. 7. Wait for the transfer to complete. 8. Go to 2. In other words, keep deleting the current request and re-requesting until you get everything you need. Best, Glenn [ad and political sig trimmed by moderator] |

Re: DISABLING THE MUTING OF THREADS
I should also note that muting only applies to email delivery. Messages will still appear on the site.
Not entirely clear on why you would want to do this. Even if you could force a subscriber to be sent all the emails, there's no way to prove that they were even received, much less read. Hope this helps, Bruce |

Re: DISABLING THE MUTING OF THREADS
Richard,
Group members only mute receipt in their own mailbox. It does not affect delivery to other members nor does it stop the appearance of the topic or posts on the group site. It allows members to manage the flow of email to their inbox. I do suggest you disallow ¡°no mail¡± as an option, if you haven¡¯t already done so. I have also set groups I started to the options that send only the first email in a thread and then allow members to opt into (¡°follow¡±) a topic. Frances |

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýHallo Bruce,
I found a? ".pull-right{float:right!important} " in the bootstrap.css in the ...wiki_files file.
The bootstrap.css has been minified so it is difficult to read. You could maybe get a straight
version from Bootstrap v3.3.6 (http://getbootstrap.com)

human-readable form...one with line breaks and such inserted so I can actually use it?
In my experience the wiki page editor refuses to recognize {float:right} and many other such "radical" constructs. If we can't use inline styles the least that could be done is to provide a copy of the sheets that we can use. Thanks, Bruce ??

DISABLING THE MUTING OF THREADS
Richard Bartholomew
Hi,
I have just created my first group and wish to be able to switch off a member's ability to mute a topic as this is not desirable for this private group. Is it possible to do this, please? I see there is a link at the bottom of each message to allow this but, to date, haven't been able to find a way of either disabling it or editing the footer to remove the link! Thanks for any advice Richard Bartholomew |
