Re: can I make a group "email only"?
Holly
I did that back in the day... with the result that my ISP was blocked as spam by a variety of big names, even though the list I sent to was not all that large - around 50 members. That was about 10 years ago and it's still sometimes a problem.

My question is - why use groups.io at all?? Groups.io is for group collaboration and discussion.? If the only thing members do is receive an email from time to time, why not just use a group / distribution list in your email client and be done with it? |
Re: can I make a group "email only"?
I agree with Toby unless your volunteer list is so large that your mail service blocks it as spam. Then a service such as MailChimp would be advisable.
I set up a Gmail account for notices to members of a 60 voice choir, promos to community liaisons and advertisers, etc. The account is delegated to other people who can author messages and maintain the contacts lists. |
Re: A whole week?
Marie Alline
Thanks Sharon! I'm not sure why people want to stay. Some people just don't like change and are scared maybe that they won't be able to navigate or something. Yesterday was very silent but today I am getting feedback and even other mods are emailing me that they want to move. Yes, they have all been transferred and the one who unsubbed did not unsub from the Yahoo group so I think she might be thinking about it. Especially after yesterday being such a bad day for email! I couldn't get anything to go through the group at Yahoo yesterday at all! I finally sent a note to everyone that I was not posting to the old group and that they should put themselves on no mail at the old group so they don't get double emails. Today I got a lot of feedback from everyone and it was all positive so far. I sent a chatty good morning letter and encouraged them to email me if they need any help with the group here. I also set up a chat in the group for help and let them know that. No one has used it yet but at least they know they aren't alone and can get help if they need it.
Thanks again for your feedback. -- Marie Alline |

Am seeing a number of folks unsubscribingJim; are they "unsubscribing" or are they being deleted because a message was marked as spam? Check the wording of the Notifications that you receive each time. See the wiki section of this group for Removed for Marking Messages as spam because this might help explain things. Feel free to copy it into your own wiki section. Chris |

Go to Admin->Members, click on the blue button immediately above "Display Name" and select "Bouncing."?But people are not unsubscribed for bouncing, so that's probably not what's happening. How well did you announce the move beforehand? Did you attempt to proactively contact those who were on "No Email" or "Special Notices" back in Yahoo? There are a lot of lurkers who only check in when they feel like it...such folks are often taken aback when they suddenly receive an unanticipated email from some mysterious thing called "groups.io" telling them to click on this and that. I know that *I* would be. I tried very hard to contact everybody in my groups beforehand and explain why we were doing this and what the timeline was. Despite all my efforts, I still had two people (out of 150) click the unsub link in the notification email, so I guess some glitches of this nature are unavoidable. Hope this helps, Bruce |

Re: Using BCC to Moderators
As I am new to groups.io, take this with a grain of salt, but I am having OUTLOOK issues with all posts I send to our +owners address. Outlook will send the message to my JUNK folder even if sender & recipient are declared as safe, yet if another owner sends the same email to the +owners address I receive it properly in my INBOX or the proper redirected folder. Could it be your Bcc is being automatically deleted by your mailer? |
Settings to change the order of files and databases
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýHi, everyone, ? I can search for files, members and databases either alphabetically or by date of arrival, but I cannot set it so it stays changed, a setting I was used to have in yg. Maybe I just haven?t found it yet¡. ? Victoria |

Hello,
Just curious, just transferred (went terrifically!:). ? Am seeing a number of folks unsubscribing, which is ok, but wondering if these are automatic from transfer identified bouncing members, or just folks who don¡¯t wish to make the move? i know I could probably tediously check, but thought it might just be automatic, and would ask here first:). Thanks, a happy new group owner, jim |

Having all members as web-only readers is probably fine. But I see

"Single" as the delivery option. If no one ever gets an email, that's fine. If they are interested in updates, they can go and look. I wish the transfer form made it clear that the checkbox applies to ALL future members of that group, not just to the group owner. Re: I am ALONE HELP! [after transfer from YahooGroups]
It is possible that things did not transfer because they were not available at Yahoo at that time. The last time (before we moved) Yahoo "lost" my files and photos - and yes, it looked just like you are describing: nothing there - it took about 10 days for them to show up again. It may have nothing to do with the transfer, whole sections of Y!G just disappear and reappear randomly. :(

The last thing in the world I want is for all the group members I'm soon going to be adding to be getting single messages (even just once a week) for a very technical group that they didn't explicitly join.I think Mark would prefer that most people be in the Updates group in case there's some system-wide event or problem, so he can then contact them via a Special Notice. Is anyone else receiving weekly emails from the Updates group? I can't recall ever getting one. If I want to view the change log, I have to proactively go to that group page and read it. Bruce |

Re: How long before transfer of Yahoo Group?
I am having the same problem.
I created the groups.io group. ? no subgroup involved.? I clicked the Start New Trasfer button I sent an invite to my Yahoo group from the Yahoo group invite panel to [email protected] 4 days later [email protected]?accepted the invitation. ?That was Tuesday. ?It's now Friday. I made [email protected] a moderator on my Yahoo group.? I was expecting an email directing me to make the?[email protected]?member a moderator. ?That hasn't arrived. ?Perhaps I moved to early? I expected the In Process selection to offer something other than a "-". ? What do I do next?? |
