Re: Transfers from Yahoo Groups ... Down?

Let's think about this for a minute.? As more and more folks get frustrated with Yahoogroups, and more come over to groups.io, the queue for migrating will grow accordingly.? As mentioned below, because of Yahoogroups captcha process, it can't be automated, so you need to be patient.? When I transferred my first group, it was done within a couple of hours.? I transferred another group (much larger) about a week or so ago and it took a few days.? And, between the time the first transferred and the second, Yahoogroups started giving problems with files/photo transfers.? My larger group got no files at all - so I literally had to go over to yahoogroups, download all the files to my computer, and then upload them to the groups.io group.? In the process of doing that, I discovered a LOT of hiccups/problems over at Yahoogroups with ME accessing my own files, so clearly there is more to this can of worms than meets the eye.

Patience - I don't work for groups.io, but I certainly understand "demand" and also limitations on time and personnel resources.? I'm sure SOME of the yahoogroups are migrating to googlegroups or something else.? But, I'm also sure that some of the less-active groups are simply dying off due to lack of participation.? Email isn't exactly something that the current generation uses as much as some of us older folks.

Re: Mute Hashtags?

Yes, you can mute hashtags: /g/GroupManagersForum/message/120? They can also be muted by using the link at the bottom of an email, /static/help#hashtags see the Uses > Muting section.

They're dead when the "B" turns red. That's the point at which has given up even trying to send them messages See "Bounce Handling" in the Help pages.

Re: Signature Line Question

J_Catlady

If you're not trimming posts in email, your signature will be at the very VERY bottom of the whole thread in email, and usually subsumed in ellipses. I've tried to get Mark to change this but it's probably too difficult to implement. If you trim your email post, you'll see the signature.

Mute Hashtags?

Is it possible to mute hashtags? In many cases that would be more accurate than muting subject lines, which can vary almost randomly.

For example, I live in a community that has frequent requests for dog walking for people in the hospital. I am not likely to ever walk a dog. I would like to mute the #dogwalking hashtag forever. Others want to mute #meals or #childcare.

Is this important to others?

Re: Bouncing Members

Hi Ruth,
I can't help with most of this because I'm new with 开云体育. Yet, I can tell you what I do with my Yahoo Groups Bouncing members; I send them an email from my personal email to see if it bounces. You get more info about why it is bouncing and if it doesn't you include a message saying that their ISP is rejecting the group messages. This happens because some ISP's look at how many people are included on to lists and bounce those that they think may be spam. Some ISP's have settings where the group member can add the group email address to a list of those that should not be rejected.

Re: Closing chats - moderators? #Discussion

Mark got back to me on this... as you can image he's rather crunched. Here's how it works:
The statement about who can OPEN chats is correct - it is only opening a chat.
In order for a moderator to be able to perform any other management functions on a chat that has been opened, that moderator must also have been given "Edit Archives" permission. If that is granted, then a chat may be closed, reopened or deleted. Otherwise, an owner must manage an open chat.

Mark did also include in his note back to me that "perhaps I should change this"....
I replied that I believed that it would be a good and welcomed change. In many groups chats serve entirely different purposes than email posts. Many groups do not allow editing of archives for reasons ranging from courtesy to legal. Having to allow that editing in order for a moderator to manage a chat is not something that works in many groups.

I think - hope - that Mark sees this (he was very open in our posts) - but some support about it might be helpful (once he's out from under the Yahoo mess, which could be a while...). There is a post in Beta about it...

Re: Database Search II

Since the Search box isn't available until a database is opened, I would think it would only search that one.? I was able to reproduce this once I found an item that was included in more than one database.? I tend not to search, but sort by the column that will make finding things easier, so hadn't noticed it before.? It should be reported to [email protected]

Re: What is the "NC" designation

Bernie,

on some pending members approval. Not sure what it means.
It means "Not Confirmed" - the pending member hasn't confirmed (verified) their email address by responding to the email message sent by 开云体育.

When a person goes to the 开云体育 web site, and isn't already signed in, the system can't know if the email address they typed in is correct. It could have a typo, or it could be deliberately false. To guard against such problems the address is considered "NC" until confirmed. Until it is confirmed group messages are not sent to that address, even if you approve their membership.

An exception to the above is if you have a premium group: then you (a group moderator) can confirm the address on behalf of the person.

Re: Auto-Send Regularly Scheduled Member Notices

Paula,

Is it possible to auto-send a message to a group at regularly
scheduled times? I have a notice that needs to be sent every two
weeks.
Currently the only Member Notice that can be scheduled is the Group Guidelines. But there can only be one such notice, and its only schedule is monthly.

How can this be accomplished?
As Jack said, a calendar Event can be used for this purpose. When creating the event, make it:

o All Day
o Event Repeats
o Repeats: Weekly
o Repeat Every: 2 weeks
o No reminders set
o Send Notice To Group When Event Happens

There will be some boilerplate surrounding the Description text, and a system-generated hashtag in the Subject line, so it won't be exactly like an ordinary message, but the above settings will minimize the extra text.

GMF's monthly subscription reminder is set up this way, it was created before the Group Guidelines notification existed, and before the "Send Notice To Group When Event Happens" option existed, and I haven't bothered to change it. You can find the January 1st reminder in GMF's Messages section, or wait a couple days...

Re: Question About Members List List #membership

Don,

Is the Join email sent before or after the transfer to 开云体育?
If you mean your group's Welcome notice, that (if you set one up) and the system-generated welcome notice are sent to each copied member after the copy of membership and content is complete.

Originally those had been sent when the membership was copied, but that sometimes prompted eager members to post while the copy of the messages was still in progress, causing the messages to be intermingled. So now the welcome notice is deferred until all content is complete.

Re: Question About Members List List #membership

Don,

Our YG transferred over to 开云体育 recently, and members of the old
group have slowly coming over to the new group. When I look at the
Members list I notice about 60 percent have a current date of joining,
and the rest have join dates well before the date our site was
officially formed on 开云体育.
The members with recent dates likely joined your 开云体育 group on their own. The members with older dates were copied in by the transfer agent.

These dates look like dates these people joined our old YG site,
That's correct.

thus making it very hard to know who actually joined our new site.
All the members shown in your Members list have. Or rather, the ones copied in didn't have to join, the transfer agent did that for them.

Along with that situation, I know all the members that came over were
not in the Pending page to be approved. What's going on here that I
need to know?
Members copied in by the transfer agent don't need to be approved. It is presumed that the fact they were members of the Y!Group is sufficient approval.

Hi Paula,

A possible solution is to use the Reminder facility within Calendar?
