I am not familiar with Incredimail, but in usual web browser parlance those represent hyperlinks to missing images (a dead link).

From the group's site there isn't any X's. From the group's site it looks like they never existed. I wonder how my members are viewing those shares.
Probably the same thing you do...no images online, xed-out images in emails that were previously sent.

Howard,

... if it was the "sent from me" issue would gmail just have never
delivered it or would it be in spam?
They do not go to spam.

It has been a long time since I tested it, but I think you may find them in your Sent folder, in a "conversation" with the original if you have conversation mode on.

I already had checked the box saying "I always want copies of my own
emails." so that won't help.
That should have eliminated the Gmail behavior by replacing the Message-ID. But maybe the option only takes effect if Groups.io thinks Gmail is your service.

The next time you reply to group (or post a new topic) by email, monitor the Email Delivery History tab in your Subscription page. Specifically watch to see if the just posted message shows up under Most Recent Successful Delivery. If it does, then the message is in your service's hands. What support may be able to do for you is verify whether your messages had their Message-ID replaced, and if not maybe arrange to do that going forward.

I also note that some have reported that their service will actually reject ("bounce") messages from themselves which arrive from an outside server such as Groups.io. If that's the problem support may be able to help by adding your service to the ad-hoc list of those that need the DMARC modification of the From address.

Any way to customize the "You are not allowed to post to this group" message?

Can the "You are not allowed to post" message returned when someone without post permission tries to post be customized??? By default the bounce email says

500: You are not allowed to post to this group.

My organization wants only officers and committee chairs to post to an "announcement only" list, so it would be helpful to add text which explains this policy.

We don't want to use the "Announcement only Group" feature built into groups.io, because that would require all officers and committee chairs to be set up as Moderators, which is complicated and error-prone.?? By just setting all users to "Override: May not post" in one fell swoop, then adjusting the few authorized posters, the system is simple (or seems so to me).

Thank you both Bruce and Duane.

My email is through my domain host but I use gmail web interface to "send as" my domain email and to auto-retrieve email from my domain host email.? Domain host is hostgator

I already had checked the box saying "I always want copies of my own emails."Go to?/account?page=prefs?so that won't help.

Bruce: I checked my gmail spam folder and it doesn't have the message--if it was the "sent from me" issue would gmail just have never delivered it or would it be in spam?
Maybe it is in my hostgator email spam folder?

Bruce: thanks I will try emailing support as you suggested.

An update to this.

I had to edit?email, removing images?that were shared in my group because they were in violation of copyright laws. I attempted to remove the inserted image that was placed in the body of the email and then also remove the attached image and then save and send the share through to the group.
?
This used to work fine. It was a clean removal?up until today I noticed while checking the mail for that group?there were ??where the images were embedded/inserted in the body of the email and were removed.
?
Previously there was no indication that anything was even in that space.?

Is this a bug? Leeni

Mark changed this about an hour ago so you can now hide ID and/or Updated by default as part of the table setup.

Unless you're using gmail (or a gmail powered domain), you should get copies.? If it's one of those cases, you should be able to 'force' copies to you by selecting "I always want copies of my own emails" on your account preferences page, /account?page=prefs

I can't tell what email provider you are using because of your custom domain. It would be helpful to know that.

Its not unusual for incoming messages that appear to be from yourself will fail to be delivered back to you. Many spammers spoof the From: line of a message header that way, and your provider may be filtering them to protect you from spam.

Some providers also compare the message-id of the incoming message with others already in your Sent folder. If it finds a match, it won't deliver the incoming message, because you already have it -- in your Sent folder.

How can I have my reply included in the email thread?
Three options:
  • Go to?/account?page=prefs?and check the box saying "I always want copies of my own emails."
  • Change your message delivery to one of the digest modes
  • Contact support and ask to have the From: line re-written (e.g.:?/static/help#exchange).
Others may have other ideas. Good luck!

Yep, that works.? Renaming a group makes the original name available immediately.? The 'problem' pops up if you delete a group.? Whatever the name is when it's deleted isn't available for 'some' time.

Steve -- Changing your group name does not cause the message archive to disappear. Some message cross-references may no longer work.

Re: Accidentally deleted group (was: user names)

I must have blundered into doing something right. As a newbie I porting a group from Yahoo, I created a like-named group here. After several attempts to complete the port the way I wanted to, I finally got a good transfer. But I wanted the message numbers in the new group to match the Yahoo message numbers so inter-message references worked (e.g., see Message #553).

So I renamed my group with a "Test-" prefix and immediately afterwards created a new group with the original name. There were no issues creating the second group. I was going to delete the Test- group but two new moderators wanted to use it to experiment with the calendar so it remains active for now.

First off, thank you for admitting the mistake.? It gives us a chance to remind folks that they shouldn't delete a group with a name that might be useful/needed in the future.? Renaming it to some gibberish name before deleting will keep the original available.

Would it make sense to use a similar name for the group?? Maybe My-Group instead of MyGroup?? Or MyGroups?? If that's not a good option, you could try contacting [email protected] to see if they'd release the name.? Sending your request from the email address you used to create (and delete) the group may carry some weight.? Just a guess, but you may be able to get it back, especially if it was only used for minimal testing.? I think you'd be starting from scratch instead of 'reinstating' it.

Re: Discerning full use members vs email-only members

Jean,

First I'd like to be able to discern who does and who doesn't have a full membership.

They all do.

In Groups.io there's no email-only distinction. A member may or may not have logged into the site yet, but that doesn't change the status of their membership.

And secondly is there a common set of directions for email-only members to apply for full group page membership??

It is much simpler than most people expect: all they need to do is Log In.

Their account was set up automatically, with no password. They can use the button on the Log In page to log in. Setting a password is optional.

I indicated my group was inadvertently deleted.? Wasn't sofware or site issue which gives plenty of warnings. It was my mistake misunderstanding the group need for that name.

Discerning full use members vs email-only members

Hello all - I'm a group owner w several thousand members - but the vast majority of these are just subscribed via email and are not taking advantage of the group homepage and all of its features.?

I'm trying to do a couple things.. First I'd like to be able to discern who does and who doesn't have a full membership.

And secondly is there a common set of directions for email-only members to apply for full group page membership??
Any help is much appreciated.
Thank you in advance,?

Jean?

Changing a groups.io name

Steve C

Hoping to get some feedback to the process of changing one's groups.io name.

Most of my questions regarding this action has been answered from previously posted threads.

I do have one specific question:

Will message history still be archived/accessible after the name is changed?

I understand that links, notices (guidelines), etc will need a manual change of the new name.

For anyone that has done the name change can your Messages from the original name still be accessed/viewed??

Thanks in advance for your help.

Kindest Regards,

Steve
