Hello,

You have been automatically removed from [email protected] because your Email Service Provider reported to us that one or more messages sent to you from [email protected] has been marked as spam.

I suspect that the above is a typo for P/S, which I used twice in my post. P/S = Pending Subscription, as in the message sent to applicants asking them to explain why they want to join a particular group.

Patty; you also asked I'm wondering how you are able to check on whether the prompts were accepted for delivery.

Go to your list of applicants, and click anywhere on their "line" other than the checkbox. This will take you to that person's "personal page", at the top of which are tabs for (inter alia) Activity History and Email Delivery History. Clicking on the latter will take you to another page where you will find a box for Most Recent Successful Delivery. Below that box are others for Most Recent Unsuccessful Attempt and Recent Bounces.

Used together you should be able to see if the Pending Subscription message reached the recipient or not... but that is not the same as confirming that they have actually read it and responded accordingly.

The only way to allow "certain members" to manipulate calendar entries is to make them Moderators. Available options are found at Admin>Settings>Features>Calendar>Permissions.?

I want all members of a subgroup to have the ability to modify the group calendar.
Membership in a subgroup grants no special privileges in the main group.?Each [sub]group has its own calendar,?with its own permissions.?

Re: pending subscription expiry ?

Hi Chris,

I'm wondering how you are able to check on whether the prompts were accepted for delivery. I can see if a member is bouncing, but these are prospective members.?

I'm not sure what's meant by P/O either.?

I *do* know exactly what you mean about the flakiness of people applying to join and then not responding to the auto-reply that asks them for information on their credentials! I own a large group (~3000 members) and we receive several subscription requests most days. A minority reply. Once, in the bad old Yahoo days, I even got a nasty response complaining that it was too much work to respond!?

Thanks for any enlightenment you're able to provide!

This feature was added just today ().

Please Note:??My testing suggests that if a subscriber has neither a shared group Profile nor a Display Name then he won't show up in a Directory search. In that case you will still have to find them via the Member List.?

If your group is using too much space, nothing can be uploaded except attachments, but even those will be removed in a short time if you've enabled "Delete Old Attachments" for the "Storage Limit Reached" setting.? Are you using any storage for files or photos (other than emailed)?? Do you have the correct settings for those items to allow uploads or are they disabled?? More details, including usage, might help narrow down the problem area.

Re: Is there a way to receive an email when someone leaves/unsubscribes from the group? #howto #membership

I checked where you suggested, and my box IS checked that says "email me when someone joins/leaves the group". I've been getting messages when someone joins, but someone left between yesterday and today, and I didn't get anything. Any ideas?

Thanks!

If you are owner or have been given the permission as moderator, it is easy. Just go to your subscription (left menu), scroll down and make sure that?Email when a member joins/leaves this group is ticked. Click on Save.

BT Email Routing Errors

I have just been advised that one of my fellow group owners, who has continued to pursue BTinternet about their server mishandling addresses with a ''+'' sign inclided. This has meant that approving subscription and messages needed to be done on the web site to avoid notifications being posted to the whole group. He has checked and now agrees with information received from BT that the problen has been cured (it only affects admin done from btinternet.com or btopenreach.com domains )

It has only taked 6 months !

Photo problem after deletion due to lack of space

About a month ago, I received a notice from the Groups.io powers that be that our emailed photos would be deleted due to lack of space.? Even though, I deleted over 100, this happened yesterday.? The problem is that no one in my group can post photos to their albums, including me.? How do I reinstate our ability to use this feature?

Well, it might be useful, but it is hard to actually delete your group by error. You are warned, told it is not recoverable (or some similar language) and then you have to agree to delete the group.

I wonder whether the original poster perhaps is logging in with the wrong email address and thus doesn't see their groups.

Yes, after 14 days, unless (IIRC) a Moderator "claims" them.

Some applicants can be a real pain, for the reasons you outlined above, and I sometimes wonder if if they ever get around to completing the paperwork (so to speak) they will turn out to be annoying members.?

I have never compiled any figures but I would guess that that possibly a majority of applications the group I moderate (& co - own) receives fall off the end of the desk after 14 days, and that is 14 days during which we will have sent them further P/S messages and often repeat "Confirm" requests.

To be fair to these individuals I always check their email delivery records to make sure that the various prompts have been accepted for delivery, and I cannot recall any cases where they haven't been; it all adds to the frustration.

There was one recently who applied when logged in, so wasn't flagged as NC; that at least was a step in the right direction. He ignored the first P/S message, and certainly 1, possibly 2, resends. At the end of his time he was duly rejected. A couple of days later he submitted another application. With no sign of a response to the P/S message I took the trouble to send a specific email to him, telling him why he had been rejected first time round and pointing out that the same would happen again if he persisted in not answering the P/S message. A day or so later he did indeed send a (satisfactory) response and was admitted.

It is all extremely frustrating, and if anyone has a quick and easy solution I would love to hear it.

Sometimes I wish there was a "Send BSOD" message available to moderators. <evil grin>

Re: #question only English? #question

Duane, Isis,
thanks for your answers. Google translate isn?t really very helpful. That?s why the site translation doesn?t come out as it should But I integrated the translator (which is much better) in the description of the site. And I also included a quick guide into the description "about what new members should expect when they receive an invitation or a confirmation email, and what they have to do to make sure they're signed up" (quote Isis).
Maybe this helps.

pending subscription expiry ?

I am trying to tidy up subscription attempts

Pending subscription messages expire after 14 days I believe

But do subscription attempts expire

They all appear genuine, yet do not respond to the pending subscription message

In a few cases not even to the confirm your email message

So was just wondering if they expire at some point

If it is possible (I assume it is), you will have to contact [email protected] about it

Or do I just wait "some" period of time and re-create it??
No, that way you'd lose all members
