If we're talking about the "error while loading the content" problem, it's a bug in Yahoo Groups, not groups.io ... and it happens A LOT.

The answer is what Shal said (/g/GroupManagersForum/message/24570).

Keep trying, refreshing the page beforehand, or even try a different browser. Oh and by the way, you must be an Owner of the Yahoo group, or a Moderator with "promote" permissions. If you're not, find someone who is.

Good luck,
Bruce

Re: Calendar query for recurring events

There are 84 'Last Weekday of Month' each year (7x12) that can not be referenced, e.g. Last Friday of the Month
see "Calendar missing "Last" function for repeating events"

2018-06-25

We should bring it up again in 2020 on the beta (suggestion) group
and hopefully this oversight will be addressed...

I'm having the same problem, Doug, and await any explanation or correction that Groups.Io has to offer. Haven't seen anything on it so far.

Is it possible to make the message titles live so that if you click in the title, it takes you down to the specific message within the digest itself?
Ann -- The Full Featured Digest does exactly that, if viewed using webmail in a browser. I cannot predict what might happen in an email client, but I suspect it could vary depending on the client [mail reader software] and its configuration. Perhaps if you tell us what client you are using someone here can help you with that.

Ann -- Good point...IF ownership of content (messages, photos, etc) is not an issue. If it's important to maintain ownership of content currently held under both email addresses the only good path forward is to merge them.

As a member, you must be logged in with the account/email you used to send the message.? As an owner, you can delete any message.

John, no Groups.io staff on this group. Just peer-to-peer help.

If you wish to suggest this, please do it on Beta when things calm down.?

I have to say that I have moved messages, and it works. As Bruce said, there are some downsides.?

Re: Can I start a new Topic and move several subscriber posts to it?

It is admitted that moving a post is a tedious thing.
Wouldn't it be a good idea to make it a simple process? Maybe, technically, it is quite a difficult development but I am sure it would be appreciated by many owners and moderators if there was a simple command/process to move posts.
PLEASE consider it soon.

Members editing and deleting their OWN messages

Givens:
  • I am a Owner of a group, I also set myself up as a user with one of my alternate email addresses.
  • I have settings on the group to ALLOW members to edit/delete THEIR messages.

When try to edit/delete my messages (as a member, not owner) I cannot do so. When I log in as owner, of course I may. However, we have a member who was able to delete his message, this per the activity log.

Any ideas why this may be occurring? I anticipate questions from members about why they cannot edit their own messages.

Thanks!

Tina

You actually only need a single click.

That page used to catch me regularly, but I finally realized I could use the column on the right for Messages view.? Makes sense that you could do both since it's an overview.? Now all you need to do is teach your finger not to click on the group name. ;>)

Mbox imports

Mark just posted this on the API subgroup of beta.? Since it's not a group that many would pay attention to (52 members), I thought I should repost it here for clarification of some previous messages:

If you can convert the messages into an mbox format, I can import them into your group, along with your users, like we do with Yahoo groups. For that, I ask that you pre-pay for a year of premium service for your group. Contact me off list if/when you're ready to go ahead with that.

Re: Messages Display Default

Thanks, Duane ...? That does the trick ... but since my groups (only 2) are already displayed on the screen of the overview page, my inclination is to just double-click on the desired group instead of going through the extra step of using the "Your Groups" drop-down.? Oh, well ...

Parent groups members are NOT automatically added to subgroups. The people already there now are those that were added via the transfer operation.

2. Is there a way to clear all these emails out of the "Direct Add" so that it's blank and I can directly add people myself? (Perhaps that'll be fixed by question 1...)
No.

All members of a subgroup must be members of the parent group, too. As a corollary to this, there is no way to Direct Add someone from outside your group directly into a subgroup. You have to Direct Add them to the parent group first...after that's completed, you can then Direct Add them to the subgroup.?

You can, however, Invite someone directly to a subgroup. When that person accepts the invitation, he will automatically be added to BOTH the primary group and the subgroup.

See?/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Why-use-a-Subgroup

After transfer from yahoo, hundreds of emails listed in "direct add" in each subgroup #transfer #subgroups #direct

We had groups.io transfer our 2 yahoo listserv email lists (with overlapping membership) into 2 separate subgroups of our new main group. The transfer seemed to go fine; each sub-group ended up with 500+ members, which was what I expected.

But when I go to the admin settings for one of the subgroups, and go to "Direct Add" it says "Directly add members of the parent group to this subgroup" at the top, and there are hundreds of emails listed, waiting for me to select them and click on "Add Members". They seem to be members of the other subgroup (I did spot checking).

Questions:
1. I don't want the parent group members to be automatically added to the subgroups. Is this a setting I can turn on/off? If so, where/how?
2. Is there a way to clear all these emails out of the "Direct Add" so that it's blank and I can directly add people myself? (Perhaps that'll be fixed by question 1...)

Re: [SOLVED]Catch-22: Can't Transfer Yahoo Group

Doug,

I've actually had and solved this problem. Yahoo sent out a message several months ago that some people ignored. It stated that if you owned or moderated a group with an ID other than *@yahoo.com, many of your privileges would soon be disabled.

At that I was owning the group with "marks@..." which was a Yahoo service, but slightly different mail agent.? AT&T validates the login password, too.

Fearing future difficulties (but not anticipating the shutdown), I created a second ID, lvmarks2000@.... I subscribed it. Then with my original ID, I made the second ID also a moderator. Never touched the second ID for months. It was just insurance.

Then, when I needed to do a PG Offline download, the original ID wouldn't work. BUT THE SECOND ONE DID!

There is no reason to think that this same procedure won't work for you:
1) Create a real, native Yahoo ID
2) Give it Moderator privileges using your original ID
3) Give that ID to GIO and ask them to try again.

BTW, the founder of GIO seems to be an honorable person. If the group doesn't upload, I have every reason to believe that he will refund your money.

Larry

The only files on GIO that may open in the browser are PDF.? All others require either a download or file extension association with a program on her computer.

Maybe I am missing something, but I don't understand why there aren't many complaints about moderated messages being edited without notifying the OP.

On the other hand, I very much appreciate the moderator's notes on this group when moderation has included editing. In fact, I think that should be the default method instead of changing a post without notifying readers that changes have been made.

Sorry, an error occurred while loading the content.
You can invite 100 more members today.
Send email to invite people to join your group. Enter email addresses or Yahoo IDs separated by commas. You can add first name and last name of the members you are inviting.? Example: firstname lastname <emailid@...>

Invited users need to accept the invitation, sign-in with their Yahoo ID to become members.

Re: Catch-22: Can't Transfer Yahoo Group

Doug,

To invite new members, Yahoo requires that they have a "Yahoo ID" [account] with a valid Yahoo email address.

The text on the Invite Members page says you can enter an email address. See the screen shot at Step 3 here:

SHAME on IO for not knowing this, and simply providing <[email protected]>.

Yeah, like you're the first person to ever try this.

And stupid of me to have pre-paid $220 (in STEP 1) without being able to execute Step 3.

Well, that may be true.

On that same wiki page see the section Test your ability to promote members in your Yahoo Group -- In Step 4 you have one more requirement beyond simply inviting the transfer address.
