Re: $110 transfer question about attachments.

A corollary to that is the question: "How can I restore a lost attachment to a message in groups.io?"

?That assumes that the attached file can be found:
  • Yahoo can list messages with attachments so they can be downloaded one-by-one
  • PG Offline can batch download attachments along with messages (curious, if PBO can get the attachments, why can't Easy Transfer?)
  • The message author or other member may have the file
  • It may be found somewhere else in the cloud
I just started looking into this question when I saw your topic...

Re: Migrating the Yahoo stragglers

Does migration take a snapshop, then start sucking bits?

OR

We see migration start, approve all the held messages, and migration catches them too?

Cant seem to post at Yahoo Groups

Hi All......
Newbie here........since yesterday I have not been able to post to any of my Yahoo Groups. ?Is anyone else having that problem or is it just me?

Thanks,

Re: How to xfer yahoo msgs emailed after Oct 28?

There's no easy way to do what you want.? You'd need to put the 'missing' messages in a file and upload that - awkward.
Are there instructions for doing this?? Shutting down a group for what could possibly be weeks doesn't work for many groups.
Thanks.

Re: 2 questions: Posting archive messages; how to moderate

I used this on Sunday:

Kinda complicated, but worked well once I got it set up. I did 1000 messages at a time.? You end up with a .TXT file for each 1000 messages.? It's very messy - each group message has all the headers.? But it could be searched?in the future.? I then uploaded these text files (1000 messages each) to the files section of my group.? Our yahoo group has been quiet of late, but there is some history that I thought needed to be preserved.? We had about 6500 messages in the old group.

I also didn't auto-add anyone to the group - I sent a message to the old group inviting them to add themselves to the new group.? I figured it was a way to clean it up (many group members were either bouncing or set to no email anyway).??

I had to manually download about 1000 pictures from the yahoo group as well, but it allowed me to get the new group set up in a matter of a couple hours, so I avoided the conversion process.

There might be 5000 or more messages.

Also can someone point me to instructions on how to moderate and approve or reject messages? In a group that the transfer agent is working on, all our members are moderated all the time to prevent incorrect advice from being posted.

Thank you.

Yes, that would work and you understand the side effects.? If you forward them and include message headers, you could even use the search function later to find postings by their information, if that would be of any use.? Might make the message archive a bit ugly though.

There's a good overview of the pending/approval process at /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Approving---moderating-a-message

I don't think pending messages on YG are copied.? They'd need to be resent to the GIO group.? It may not be the best way to handle it, but there's no reason they can't post to your new group while the transfer is in process.

IF that's true (no way to know for sure until the date), then it would be best to disable posting on the YG.? Everyone would need to wait until the transfer is complete, then use the new group.? Once the new group is created, you could do all the steps up to giving the go ahead at any time.? That might save some time down the road.

Migrating the Yahoo stragglers

So we'll:
  1. Enable Moderation on the Y!G site
  2. Request the migration
  3. Wait, as GIO's guru[s] are busier than Santa's helpers
  4. Migration starts, but from some reports it may take several days. (Not surprising given Y!G is down to one last 28.8Kb modem to talk to the world....)
  5. Meanwhile, posts stack up in the queue on Y!G.
  6. Migration complete.

What happens with all of #5's posts?
Do they migrate as well so they can be approved on GIO, or are they lost or?

An account is created for each member transferred.? If they only use email, they're done.? If they want to use the site, for files and such, see /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Logging-In? You can include a link to that page if you want since it's accessible to the public.

pricing correction to wiki #wiki #pricing

The group managers forum Wiki says groups over 500 members are not free, but Mark has changed that. He removed the 500-member limit for free accounts, for now. He will have a pricing plan initiated down the road but not at this time.

How to xfer yahoo msgs emailed after Oct 28?

Starting Oct 28, yahoogroups won't save any new content.

That means that new files cannot be uploaded, and no new messages archived.

We have created a new io group, and will soon pay upgrade to premium.

Our plan was to take a week or two, to set up the new empty io group with our custom notices, our own faq, etc. ... and then initiate the procedures for "easy transfer".

I understand that there is high demand, so we might have to wait our turn for the transfer. Totally understandable.?

But what happens to any new messages from our members sent to our list after Oct 28th? I understand they won't be archived inside our yahoogroups site. So how could they be transferred to groups.io?

The bottom line is ... for any transfers that happen between Oct 29 and Dec 1st, what happens to any new emails sent to the yahoogroups list during that time before the transfer is finalized?? How can these new emails be transferred if they are not added into our yahoogroups message archive?

Would we need to just save them in our regular email inbox, and then find a way to download them into some sort of archive file (I have no idea how)? and then post that into the groups.io?
Hoping there is a simple way to do this.

Yes, you can choose what gets transferred.? See /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Transfer-from-Yahoo-Groups#Step-1-E28094-Set-Up-and-Start-the-Transfer-Process

If it's bouncing members that you're concerned about, they wouldn't be transferred.? Each person transferred will get an email to let them know.? There's a link in it to allow them to easily opt out.

Re: moving info question

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

I have seen this question a lot of times these days.

Yes it is possible but be aware that then all the history in files and photos and all the old messages miss there original contributor.

So it really could make sense to transfer everything and delete later.
