Re: Reply to Group

Alan,

Hi I did report this some time last year. My tests suggest that it is
a function of the use of a smartphone as a ''terminal'' ...
No, the same problem occurs with any email interface.

The issue is that the footer links are formed as mailto: links - links which open your computer's default mail program to form an outbound message. The link only contains the To address (the group) and the Subject text.

Many email interfaces do not support including message body content in a mailto link, so Groups.io does not include that. Besides, it would typically make the link huge.

Using the Reply function of one's email interface is typically the easier way to do it, rather than having to copy/paste any quote you want manually.

Re: Yahoo Groups death knell?

Thank you for the clear explanation. I found I could download the entire member list from the Yahoo group in .csv format, so I have that saved.

In our case the files and photos belong to the group, so that isn't an issue; but we have the white boxes/empty place holders, and for the past two days haven't been able to see and of those.

When you click on Set Up New Transfer, you'll find a series of checkboxes. If you UNcheck the Transfer Members box, you can delay migrating the members.?

There are no invitations involved in the transfer process...if their accounts are not in Bouncing status in Y!G, they are automatically subscribed/shanghaied (and sent a notice allowing them to opt out). If you want invitations sent out instead, simply upload a flat text file, one email address per line, to send the invitations later (i.e.: outside of the transfer process).

Important Note:? Ownership of files, photos and other group content cannot be assigned to someone who doesn't have a groups.io account. So if you migrate the content without the members, they will lose "ownership" of it, and it will all be reassigned to the group owner. Depending on the situation in your group, this may or may not be objectionable; but generally speaking I don't recommend it.

Hope this helps,
Bruce

Re: Yahoo Groups death knell?

And of course, typical Yahoo, the announcement on the top of groups pages includes a "learn more" link which is a broken link.

I have a migration question- when we migrate a yahoo group, does it automatically send groups.io invites to all members? We are testing, want to migrate all the message archives and save the member list but not invite the members yet; we we don't want to do that once we see everything is set up the way we want.

Re: Number of Groups.io Members

I thought it might be interesting to some to watch the numbers as Yahoo Groups "restructure".? As of a few minutes ago:? Newest group member number - 4,322,225; Newest site member number - 2,015,650; Visible group count - 13,224.

Subject: [GMF] Reply to Group

After receiving an email in an email client on a cellphone or computer the following happens. If I click Reply to Group at the bottom of the email next to View Online the reply removes the email content. It also removes all prior replies in the thread.

However if I click Reply to All from my email client the content is maintained. Is there a way to change this so the content does not get removed?

Please inform the Y!GMF group:

If you're seeing blank squares where your images should be, welcome to the crowd. This has happened many times over the last few years. In the past these incidents resolved over time and the photos reappeared. Whether that will hold true this time I can't guess.

Some messages earlier in GMF indicate that the problem also affects the Easy Group Transfer agent's ability to copy a Yahoo Group's photos as well.

Need help changing basic free group to a subscription group

Raymond Knapp

Sometime ago I created a basic free group here but never did anything with it. Now I want to change it to a subscription model the lowest cost one. How can I do this? I need to pay for one year before they will move my group over to this service. Can someone please tell me how I can do this? Thank you Ray Knapp

Re: Timeout issue

Strommarkttreffen,

There server needs 2min to process emails but the groups.io server
times out after 1min. Is there any possibility to set the timeout of
groups.io to 2min?
Only [email protected] can help you with this.

Two minutes, inside an SMTP transaction? That sounds tremendously broken. This organization should fix their mail server.

Even greylisting, as awful as that is, is a better anti-spam approach than this, if that's what they are trying to do.

Re: Transfer two Yahoo groups to one GIO group? #transfer #yahoo

Su,

Can two Yahoo groups archives be transferred into one Groups.io group?
Yes, just transfer one then the other.

The messages will get distinct ranges of message numbers, with the second transfer beginning at a higher number than the last message of the first.

That doesn't matter for most purposes as the sort for display of messages and topics is based on the date - which copies with each message from the Yahoo Group. However when viewing a message there are < (Previous) and > (Next) buttons which go in numeric order. There is no way to renumber the messages.

Avraham,

When more than 12 messages and replies are sent to the
Group, more than one Digest seems to be automatically
created and sent. Is there any way to modify this? Can we
expand the number of messages per digest?
There is no control for that.

Is there a way to make the *Daily Summary* more useful by hypertexting
each post so that each message could be opened, one at a time, from
this Daily list?
It links to each topic.

To get links to each individual message choose the Full Featured Digest instead of the Summary. But then you have the max of 12 messages per digest.

Is there a way to add a "create a new post" link at the top of the
Digest and Daily Summary pages and/or at the bottom of each message?
Only in the way you found, by adding it into the group customized section of the footer. Did you want it to open the user's email interface to create the new topic (a mailto: link, like the Reply To Sender and Reply To Group links)? Or did you want it to take them to the group's New Topic page (an https: link, like the View/Reply Online link)?

Is there a way to re-label the ¡°Unsubscribe¡± link at the bottom to
¡°Change Email Preferences/Unsubscribe¡± since the Unsubscribe button
actually links to a preference page already?
There is no control for that.

For things that you think would be general improvements to Groups.io you can post to the beta group - that's the official "suggestion box".

Re: Yahoo group transfer -- how can I request new members?

Judi,

The easiest way if you don't want to transfer your group (you would need to pay for 1 year for a transfer) the easiest way might be to post a message on YahooGroup. It really depends on how many people there are in your groups.

If it is a smallish group, you can invite members.
See?/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Inviting-new-members

I hope you finished setting up your group - see?/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Quick-Start-for-Group-Formation

If you wanted to transfer, see?/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Transfer-from-Yahoo-Groups

Re: Yahoo group transfer -- how many can I request? #yahoo #transfer

Judi J

Note from Yahoo:

Yahoo has announced that they are not going to allow users to upload content the the groups.? Beginning October 21, 2019.? We have until December 14, 2019 to save ALL our posts, photos, etc. before Yahoo removes them.? Read below. ?

Understand what's changing in Yahoo Groups

Yahoo has made the decision to no longer allow users to upload content to the Yahoo Groups site. Beginning October 21, you won't be able to upload any more content to the site, and as of December 14 all previously posted content on the site will be permanently removed. You'll have until that date to save anything you've uploaded.

  • Files
  • Polls
  • Links
  • Photos
  • Folders
  • Calendar
  • Database
  • Attachments
  • Conversations
  • Email Updates
  • Message Digest
  • Message History

The Yahoo Groups site will continue to exist, however, all public groups will be made private or restricted. Any new group members will need to request an invite or be invited by an admin. Admins will still be able to manage various group settings, though some functionality will be limited.

On October 21st, you will no longer be able to upload any content to the site. To share info with members of your groups, you'll continue to be able to do so via email.

right from the Yahoo Groups site, or you can?.

You'll still be able to communicate with your groups via email and search for private groups on the site. In addition, admins will continue to have limited access to group settings and administration tools.

That¡¯s about it, group.? I suggest if you want to save any files or photos,? you do that now.?

??? Download a photo:? You SHOULD be able to download a photo by hovering your mouse over the photo and using the download icon (right bottom corner) to download.? THAT DOES NOT WORK FOR ME.? If you figure out how to download a photo, please inform the group.

?

??? Download a file:? Go to the Files section and left click on the file and then navigate to where you want to save the file.

Judi Jaksa

Thank you so much.
Got answers for the following so far:

(1) In the "settings" section, there is an option to allow "reply to sender." We had to enable it.
(2) The "summary" might solve the problem since users will only receive one message per day. Question: Is there a way to force send a digest/summary? Also, is there a place that we can set what time the summary is distributed each day?
(3) We added a footer with information about how to create a new post.

Logically, one is a subgroup of the other, but we no longer actively use the subgroup. I am wondering if it is possible to combine the archives together by transferring one and then the other to the same GIO group.
