I faced the same issue some 3 years ago when Wikispaces restricted its free, basic service to just educational sites. Initially $50 p.a. and then boosted to $100 p.a. and soon to shut down (hence my search for a new platform to which I can transfer content and restore some semblance what we have). I solicited donations through PayPal and very quickly received enough for a couple of years. But it means going back to the members periodically and now PayPal has to report its distributions to the tax man. These donations in and expensed out to the service provider are counted as taxable income (in my country, anyway).??
