We have many old posts, for example, meeting notices that would be
nice to purge. Is it possible to do this after the transfer by
"subject" or other bulk deletion?

There is no bulk deletion mechanism. I'm pretty sure it has been discussed in the beta group. This is the closest I find in the official to-do list:

Yeah, I wouldn't bother deleting before. Maybe just wait for a bulk operation to become available.
