I just received this email back from AOL tech support:

It should only be appearing for mail that are from lists. It is likely the ones that appear from individuals are actually going through a mailing list that can be unsubscribed to.

This is functionality that is in the new version of our web mail product, and it is more productive to unsubscribe from these than to consider them spam and report them.

We have a next phase that will also bucket these and you can show them all together in a view like you see your mail listed. Once that exists it might make more sense if you can see them all together as to what list they really are on.

I do not belong to any lists like these any more so I can't duplicate what you describe to see how they might be related though.

He is incorrect, though.? Not all the mail from the different groups.io sites have the unsubscribe across from the From line.
