Re: rash of emails/postings to my members from 'member' @Yahoo Groups

Yvette,

Shal, if this is the case, would it be possible for one of the previous members of the Yahoo group to shut it down?? I am in contact with some members who had moderation privileges there and if I could explain to them how to do it, maybe we could stop problems with the Yahoo group in the future.

A member couldn't, but a moderator with typical privileges could act to stop the abuse(d)(ing) address from posting. They would search for that address in the Manage Members list and change its posting privilege to the can't post override.

To stop all (but moderator) posting in the group no longer seems to be possible: the Access Control tab of the control panel used to have the Who can post? control, but that whole tab is gone now.

To actually delete the Yahoo group would require that the moderator have the Delete this group privilege, which many owners may have been reluctant to give. To find out, the moderator can go to the Control Panel, and look at the bottom of the About Group tab - there will be a section there with a purple Delete Group button there if the moderator has the privilege.

Or if the moderator has the privilege to Add, remove, and change moderator privileges he/she could give him/herself the delete privilege (I think). That's another powerful privilege that many owners might not give out. To find out the moderator can click on his/her own row in the Moderators list and see if the Edit Member dialog pops up. If nothing at all happens then he/she lacks the privilege.

Shal
