By "this email account," do you mean the group address?

A [totally false] scam about recording people in compromising positions using their own computer's webcam has been going around the 'net in various forms for nearly a year now. They ask for a bitcoin "ransom" because it cannot be traced...the originating address is generally spoofed.

If you can't find the same message(s) in the online message archive, then it didn't come from the group. The fact that a new subscriber got one of these the same day he joined is probably just a coincidence.?
